I make most of my money from online MTTs, but so far have a loss in the live MTTs I have played in. I know NL and limit ring games are much easier live at the same blinds. This is definately less pronounced for MTTs. Are live MTTs easier?

yes, but they usually turn into crapshoots early, unlike most online tournaments of similar buyin, which is why you might not have the same success, at least not straight away.

Two thoughts:

1.) Most casinos offer only one buy in MTTs, so you get the players who would be playing a 1000$ MTT and 10$s.

2.) Might just be a sample size issue, I dont know that any of us have played enough live to know with any realistic certainty if live MTTs are more profitable

Fair enough.

In response to OP's question: Define easier.

I have also noticed that the speed of the blinds and antes after the first hour make for a lot of racing. So, while it's comparatively easier to build a decent stack in the the first three levels, by the second hour your M generally going to be no more than 10-12 (often less) and in 20 minutes it's going to be half that.
If you're trying to get to the first three payouts, you have to gamble, with little FE, against players who are extremely willing to gamble; a high variance scenario.

I guess I'd say they're easier to play. Harder to guarantee a win with good play.

My experience is the play is much more aggressive online, and people take more close gambles online. The reason for this is simple if you think about it.

At a live event, you usally have people who have traveled and pointed to the tourney. They don't want to go bust early and go home. As a result, the play VERY conservatively in the early rounds.

Online, if you bust out, then you can sign up for another event in an hour or less.

Personally, I have a higher ROI on live tourneys, but +EV in both.

Yeh, I noticed that. I usually equate wild early action with a soft tournament online, and you see less of that live.

A lot of these daily/weekly live tournaments have big antes and everyone becomes short stacked fast.

My best live finish I took 4th after pushing 6 hands in a row short stacked. There were about 35 players left, few of whom had more than 10xBB. 18 places payed sort of, but the money was in the top places of course. A lot of people were trying to fold into the money already. One of the times I had AK. However, when it is passed to you and you have 3xBB and there is 2 1/2BB in the pot with blinds and antes and you have some shance to steal the blinds, you have to push. Likewise if there is someone allin for like 1xBB you can isolate against.
