Joewatch was at the table when I played this hand. He attempted to gripe about the way I played it until I ran the numbers on twodimes:

Of course I was somewhat lucky that the nut flush draw wasn't out there and that only one spade was out of play but I think I played the hand well. Any thoughts?

Check the flop for the free card. Although the preflop raise is good, it did not thin the field sufficiently to make a follow-up pot-sized bet on the flop safe enough. In a multi-way pot, it's easy for any one of them to have a better made-hand, AND you're in particular trouble if someone dominates you with a better flush draw.

You are only in trouble if you are up against both a better made hand and the nut flush draw, and you have outs to a higher set plus runner-runner draws. Betting may cause one or the other to fold, or two people may like their draws, or two people may like their made hands. A lot of hands can pick up two pair or hit a straight if you check. I like the bet. I don't like waiting for top set.

After the set moved in I was getting 3.75 to 1 on my call. Would you fold here in a large pot with 45% equity?

Yeah, it's almost a coinflip but I'm not inclined to check the flop here to give a free card and let someone make two pair or put me to a hard decision if I hit my flush. The only hand I can really fear here in terms of drawing thin is the nut flush draw, which I thought that the shortstack might have. Add in the fact that the UTG player was likely to be making this move with 99 but is known for playing lots of rag hands facing raises and could've easily had JT93 and I think the call is automatic. As for the bet, I think you might be able to argue for a check here but I'm not inclined to give free cards when I feel I'm either ahead or a marginal dog.
