View Full Version : Party Poker Tournament Cancellation Scam

07-23-2005, 01:16 AM
I was playing in a Party Poker 9+1 Super Weekday Qualifier the other day when a message came up a mere few hands into play, saying that the table was being cancelled and that all money would be refunded. The tournament lobby dissapeared but our table was still active, leaving us all wonder what was going on. Everyone went all in since we figured it was over and we figured that would make the screen dissapear. Then we all left.

Today I receive the following message from Party Poker:

Dear Mack_Wonder ,
Due to unforeseen circumstances we were forced to cancel tournament "Super Qualifier". At the time of cancellation, players were awarded prize money corresponding to the rank to be awarded to the next eliminated player. Following this 50% of the remaining prize pool has been divided equally and 50% has been divided based on the chip count of each remaining player. $5.50 have been added into your account as per the following statement:

Tournament id: 399133 Name: Super Qualifier
Buy-In/Entry Fee: Super Qualifier $9.00 / $1.00 Total Players to start: 510
Players at the time of cancellation: 510???? Level at the time of cancellation: 1
Limit: 15.00 / 30.00 Total Chips in play: 510000

Total Buy-in collected = $4,590.00
Prize Money already given = $0.00
Total prize pool = $4,590.00 - $0.00 = $4,590.00
Minimum prize pool award = $0.00 * 510 = $0.00

Prize pool to be divided equally = ($4,590.00 - $0.00) / 2 = $2,295.00
Prize pool to be divided based on chip count = ($4,590.00 - $0.00) / 2 = 2,295.00
Entry Fee to be refunded = $510.00

Why does party poker get to keep half of the money due to a technical difficulty that is their own part? I paid 9+1 and am only getting 4.50 + 1 back! That is a scam if I have ever seen one.

In response to this I contacted Party Poker about this policy and received the following response:

I understand that you have played a Tournament 399133 Named Super Qualifier($9/$1). As informed earlier that the number of Players at the time of cancellation were 510. Buy-In/Entry Fee for Super Qualifier was $9.00 and $1.00
respectively. You had 0 tournament chips at that point of time. Your share inmoney equally divided = $2,295.00/510 = $4.50. In addition you have the entry
fee refunded $1. This totals to $5.50.

That is the same thing they said in the previous message. Is it me or are they just giving me the run around, while in the mean time ripping people off for half of their money. It may not be alot of money, but over enough tournaments that were cancelled that day, that is alot of money.

Anybody else have this problem, or perhaps anyone that can explain this nonsense?

You got half your money back after you busted out. I'd say you did damn good. Shut up and leave these forums.

I'm not going to read your entire thing, but let me just say this...

No, they aren't trying to steal $5 from you.

I busted out because they said the tournament was cancelled and so everyone went all in on one hand.

They wouldn't have dealt cards "for fun" if the tourney was over.

Now you know not to do that. What was the logic of doing that anyway?

I was actually favorably impressed by party's handling of the cancelled tournaments from the outage a few days ago. I thought everything was quite fair on the tournaments I was involved in.
