View Full Version : ? About Indian Casinos & Taxes

I mean native-american casinos. Under no circumstances can I, as an individual, LEGALLY open a card room in my state; however, the “No-fold-um” tribe can open one in my state because they are technically not in my state or even in the United States… they are technically in the Nation of the “No-fold-um” tribe. This is the way I understand it for all states & Indian Casinos. Is this the way everybody understands it? (I know they somehow need state approval).

If this IS true, then why would we have to pay taxes on Indian casino winnings if we are not in the U.S.? Or why would Indian Casino dealers have state and income taxes taken out of their checks? I certainly wouldn’t pay U.S. state & federal income taxes if I worked or won the lotto in Estonia! (can’t honestly say I know if there is a lotto in Estonia)

I know this is a no-win thing with the gub’ment, but anybody ever thought about this?

Disclaimer: I love Indian Casinos, paying taxes, nice roads, firemen, and policemen!

Hate to break it you, but if there is a lotto in Estonia, and you win it, you need to pay US taxes on your winnings.

i work for an indian casino and the wages are pretty sweet. i get $7/hr plus tips with full dental and health. sure, they are definately screwing the hell out of everyone else, but they are pretty good to their employees. so i tend not to complain. oklahoma gets taxed on anything $1200 and up, so i have actually seen people playing max bets on a machine with ~$1500 trying to get down to $1199 instead of paying taxes. pretty funny stuff.
