In the spirit of lame math questions with obvious idiot ways to blow them, let's kick this one some more... X-posted from The Trainwreck:

1 mile oval
you average 60mph for the first of 2 laps
how fast must you go for the second lap to average 120mph for the two laps combined?
i apologize if this is too easy

You'd have to go faster than the speed of light in order to reverse time. Because there is no speed at all that will allow you to end up with that average.

To average 120 mph for 2 miles, you would have to travel the distance in 1 minute. Since you went 60 mph for 1 mile, you've already used up 1 minute, and you have 0 minutes remaining to travel Lap 2. The MPH of 1 mile in 0 minutes can't be calculated -- division by zero error.

To average 120mph over 4 miles, you must finish in 2 minutes. At 60mph, it took you 2 minutes to drive the first 2 miles. Therefore, you must complete the next 2 laps instantaneously to average 120mph. In other words, it can't be done.

I don't think this will work. How will you be able to prove you traveled the second lap?

infinity.

you've already spent 1 minute going around. for you to average 120 you must complete the two laps in 1 minute.

(didnt look at any responses yet.)
