View Full Version : Most Worthless State

Feel free to add some I'm forgetting. None that are already here will be removed.

Pick the state that, culturally, has the least important role in the US. Or the default state that everyone you know laughs at. No one cares if they produce a lot of corn or oil.

Of those on the list it's gotta be Arkansas. Many of the states on there have at least some amazing scenery and can be nice places to visit or drive through. Arkansas provides absolutely nothing. While we're at it, I don't think anyone would mind if Mississippi was blown off the face of the earth either.

That's SD, in case you were referring to them in response to my picking ND.

And while I agree - Wall is literally right across the road from Badlands Nat'l Park, so I spent a lot of time in there - that's a small part of the state. All that stuff is in roughly the western third of SD. The rest of it, everything between the badlands and Souix Falls: worthless.

Utah is close for the same reason. Some people find desert scenery very beautiful, but come on, its practically one giant salt flat.

When I lived in St. Louis and drove home to Texas, I used to take the slightly longer drive through the Ozarks just for the scenery. Much better than the Oklahoma drive, which should be on the list IMO.

WVa is the obvious choice but it actually is a quite sceanic state (if you can just avoid all the locals) and they have some excellent white water rafting.

Plus if it just disappeared of the map there would be a huge hole next to VA.

You have to go out of your way to get to Delaware and I don't think anyone would ever go there if there wasn't a 10 mile stretch of I-95 that went across the top corner between Maryland and NJ.

I cringed when I saw Arkansas on the list 'cause it is such a whipping boy of a state. I went with ND and was shocked to see what a whopping lead it has.

Mississippi > Alabama. And it's not even close.

Two reasons: Mizzippi has casinos. And good roads that allow you to get the hell across the state and be gone with a minimum of fuss. The state troopers I used to see on US 78 didn't seem to care that I averaged 85 mph.

Alabama will not build decent roads, it is the crust on the boil on the ass of the U.S. It does have some decent beaches though (or used to, until the recent hurricanes) and so barely Alabama > North Dakota.
