Ok, I have bad eyes, and it has been recommended that I wear sunglasses (not for stupid poker).

So, I want a decent looking pair for my large noggin, and I don't want to spend a fortune (<$100).

Help me out. I know NOTHING about sunglasses.

Go to your nearest CVS or Walgreen's. Try on all the pairs and look at yourself in that little mirror at the top. Pick one.

You're welcome.

If you have bad eyesight, it might help to get prescription sunglasses.

I have a pair of costa del-mars, these are the best sunglasses i've ever owned. about $120 but they come with a lifetime warrenty. I Strongly suggest to get a pair, they are worth the extra $$.

Don't buy something that isn't polarized. You get what you pay for in sunglasses. So if you're gonna sit on them, leave them at the restuarant, or otherwise find ways of destroying them buy a cheap pair of polarized lenses. Even Ray Ban (A good company) has some low end ones in the $50 range. If you think you will keep them around and undamaged for a few years, push up to the $100-150 range and get a decent pair.

Check out DeNiro's sunglasses in the last shot of Casino.

Sunglasses are either $5-$19.99 or they're $140+. There's no such thing as a 'decent pair' <$100. I've got a huge head and require spring-loaded frames. Check out the Oakley A-wire 2.0 (the 2.0 is important - the original A-wires don'e have springs) for $140 or Ray Ban's got a pair I think I'm going to go pick up for $160. They're polarized - I think the number on them is RB-3176. I believe you can Rx the Ray Bans.

check out costco. they get premium sunglasses at a discount because they buy discontinued models. I got a pair of maui jims for 140 recently. a lot depends on what is there when you go.

I can justify the sunglasses because I fish a lot and because my wife is an optometrist and would give me a living hell if I went out without eye protection. granted, any cheapo pair from longs could give you the uv protection, but you cant beat quality glass when trying to spot fish in the water.

the jeans? meh. I buy levis on sale or at the outlet.

I own 4 pairs of pants and they were all <$20.

Anyways! What about overstock.com? Do any of those pairs look good? Does the "Spy" brand suck? It seems they have a ton of them at a good price.

anyway, look at it this way: you're only paying $70 for a sunglass and 100 for a jean.

I think a lot depends on what your vision problems and needs are. like I mentioned, I fish a lot, so there are only a few brands that I would use (for fishing purposes). if you're just looking for UV protection, most brands offer UV, so you can just go with whatever fits your taste and budget. if you have special medical considerations, you have to factor that in as well.

Spy Optics are nice. So are Electric Sunglasses. They should have those on Overstock too.

Maui Jims rock. That $140 pair used to go for $300. I had a pair for 6 years. Nylon frames, nearly scratch-proof polarized lenses, light as heck. I would still have the same pair if I wasn't a big dope. Had 'em in my shirt pocket and picked up a heavy box & crushed them. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

care to elaborate?

spending anymore than $20 on sunglasses seems like madness to some, but it's a good investment.

"But Cro, I always break my sunglasses or lose them!" Well Johnny Boy, you won't lose them if you paid $100+ for them!

Reminds me of a story from Vegas...bro's stag...we go to a gentleman's club, I'm rockin my sunglasses cuz I'm so cool (have been wearing em all day and night thinking I'm hellmuth). I took off my sunglasses to enjoy the view, then we moved to the VIP section, and oops..an hour or two later (who keeps track of time there?!?!?!) i realize my oakleys are gone..oh crap!! i check the table we were sitting at, a couple was sitting there...and BAM oakleys are still there. it was so dark in there that nobody else seen them! And that is why I avoid alcohol at all costs, I'm a lightweight lol

Serengetis or Revos: they are two of the few brands that are "optically perfect".
