View Full Version : Best Crime Movie of All Time...

Saddlepoint

...not including either Godfather, or any film directed by Martin Scorcese.

Definition is naturally subjective, but heist films, gangster films, and movies about con artists are all permissable as far as I'm concerned.

lmfao that's ridiculous, not including the godfather or any film by martin scorcese...how about this thread "best fantasy and/or sci-fi films not including anything by: lucas, spielberg, or jackson."

scorcese has made some of the best gangster/mafia/crime movies of this era, to exclude him would be a crime. (no pun intended)

istewart
07-20-2005, 01:46 AM
It's really not ridiculous. Everyone would pick Goodfellas or The Godfather (I certainly would), so this poll changes that a bit.

Me, when the top 2 or 3 are so intuitively obvious that discussing it would be a massive waste of time. If you want to run an official Greatest Crime Movies poll, I'd happily to vote in it, and I'd also bet my entire bankroll that The Godfather, The Godfather Part II, and Goodfellas take the top three spots in some order. And then we don't get to discuss the relative merits of The Sting, Scarface, The Usual Suspects, City of God, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, The Limey, Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, and a dozen other movies I haven't seen yet but hopefully will as a result of this thread, which, I might add, ought to be a much more fertile discussion topic. So bite me.

Heat or Pulp Fiction, thread over. Goodfellas is a Scorcese film and if you don't think it's one of the best movies ever made you know nothing about movies.

how about someone making a case for pulp fiction even being a crime film? it is a great movie. (i even watched it w/ tarintino). but im not sure it should be considered a crime film.

resevoir dogs is clearly a crime film. there's a bank heist. in pulp fiction there are murders committed but those are the result of immediate reactions the characters have. not elaborate plots that are laid out throughout the movie (such as double indemnity).

in a crime film, the characters should plot out and struggle w/ committing the crime. have obstacles, be unsure of themselves, risk getting caught, etc. what is THE crime in pulp fiction?

Le Samurai rules. In fact I think its John Woos favorite movie. City of God is good, not the best though.

Some of my favorites (if u take Godfather and Casino out)

Heat.
Leon (The Professional)
The Killer
Hardboiled (two of the best)
Natural Born Killers (how was this not mentioned already)
Scarface
Pulp Fiction
Fight Club
Blow
Ronin
La Femme Nikkita (the original)
Boondock Saints
Usual Suspects

....and many of the others mentioned here already.

I'll throw in another vote for Miller's Crossing, which I think is the best movie the Coen Brothers have made (and I consider Raising Arizona and Lebowski to be among the top comedies of all time).
