I can't believe how long it took for anybody to point out that flip-flops are not shoes that can be worn anywhere serious. It is bad enough to wear them anywhere but home, the shower, the pool, or the beach, but now people wear them to the White House to meet the President????? Unbelievable.

i work at a professional photo lab and we laugh at this stuff all the time too. i like flip flops, but the idea of wearing them as 'dress shoes' is just stupid.
there are a lot of wedding photos that come through where bridesmaids are wearing flip flops with their dresses !! it just looks so bad.!

I freakin' hate flip flops. My wife wears them alot, and then she starts bitching when she turns her ankle, stubs her toe, or otherwise has some sort of accident hobbling around on these moronic contraptions.

She bought me a pair and it seriously feel like they cut off the bloodflow to my big toe, causing it to fall off!!! At least when women wear high heels their legs look really hot, but there are no benefits to wearing flip flops.

I have a pair of sports sandals that totally pwn flip flops.

Slip on entry, ability to do them up so I can run in them, plenty of toe protection.

Sandals rule.

I also go barefoot whenever possible.

1) I DJ'ed some high school proms a few months ago. I thought it was funny that many of the girls were in flip-flops by the time for the lead-out. I can see changing out of uncomfortable shoes for the dance, but not for the part where everyone is watching you. What's the point of dropping all that money on new high-heels if you only wear them for 5 minutes?

2) I've always heard that your feet have alot to do with how hot/cold you feel. I know several girls who, in the summer months, only wear flip-flops. They claim they're more comfortable and better for hot weather, yet if they step into a room with air-conditioning they are suddenly freezing and don't understand why.

I wear flip flops whenever possible, and appropriate. I have several nice pair that I can wear with nice shorts or jean, and a couple of "kick around" pair that I can wear when I am just messing around.
That being said, I would never wear them to a nice place to eat, or to an indoor party at someone's house that I do not know.

obviously at a dance you wear shoes you can dance in. You don't wear flip flops and you don't take your shoes off. If you can't dance in high heels you don't dance. Very simple. Teachers and parents need to teach teenagers these simple things.

Obviously parents need to do this. However, when you see the product of neglectful parents (showing up at prom in flip flops is a sure sign your parents are inadequate /images/graemlins/wink.gif) teachers need to do something. High school dances are supervised and a teacher just needs to say "Put on your shoes." yes, I went to a school that required shoes at dances, not a big deal. Problem now is the teacher might be in flip flops.

Is this the demand of all your footwear? What in the world do you need to move efficiently for? That is what basketball/running/tennis shoes are for.

And I highly suggest you try a good pair on before you knock them. There is no way I would wear these ~200 days out of the year if they weren't insanely comfy.

of course it does. Unless you work at the beach or pool as a lifeguard, flip-flops don't cut it. Also, I see some people being allowed to wear flip flops in work environments where it is a legitimate safety issue.

actually you are better off buying 300 dress shoes. You can get them resoled at least once if not twice. The company in the link will do a refurbishing on their shoes for like 80 or 100. They last longer and are much better on your feet than 100-150 dress shoes. Shoes are something you want to spend some money on. You don't have to spend 500 on pimp shoes, but 300 on American made dress shoes is not outrageous when you wear them all the time. Spending 110 on bad dress shoes isn't a good deal.

Flip-flops just have the one thing in front for your toe. That's all that keeps it on your foot, hense the flip-flop of the heal...

Sandles have a strap for your heal and are basically open-air shoes.

I can't deal with flip-flops (on me), they just drive me nuts. Plus, I have farmer-feet from golfing too much with booty-socks on. My feet are whiter then my ass (that's white) although my legs are dark (dark), so the contrast is something I tend to avoid in public /images/graemlins/smile.gif

In California, flip-flops are basically shoes and most places allow them to work unless there is a safety reason to not allow them, but I have never seen an 'office environment' disallow them other then most financial institutions and places like that...

But...I still wouldn't wear them to The White House. Comeon, that's just disrespectful, even if it's just the Chimp in office. If nothing else...respect the biulding!

The thing about flip-flops is that when a friend wears them to go out, he's basically telling you that he doesn't have your back tonight. If you get in a brawl, you know you can't count on him to jump in if he's wearing flip flops. Hell, he could stub a toe or roll an ankle.

Aside from that, I don't see the problem with wearing them to work or the white house. If you're not going to be playing a sport or kicking some ass, then who cares what's on your feet.

Reef sandals are the bomb. form fitting, comfortable as hell, and not douche-bag-ish.

sadly being just out of college, I'm finding fewer spots where Reefs are the footwear of choice.

Not my feet, if that helps.

BTW - I'd rather have the wearing flipflops they can kick off before entering the water than running shoes - which are a ***er to swim in.

My flip-flops are my most comfortable footwear and they have a lifetime warranty, no questions asked.

Yes, us Californians sure are dumb... Comfort and durability are horrible!

Clearly you define comfort as having something wedged between your toes while wearing shoes that catch on things and don't allow you move efficiently. And I'm ignoring that irritating noise they make.

[/ QUOTE ]

The irritating noise only happens when idiots can't figure out how to walk correctly with them.

Men's bare feet should never be seen in public. Ever. With the exception of the beach or pool.
