Why does it seem that the New York Times is so involved in this affair?

Wilson's editorial was printed in the NYT.
Judith Miller, a NYT journalist, is in jail for contempt because of her refusal to devulge her sources.
And consider that the NYT blew the cover of a CIA-run airline that endangered far more lives than this Plame thing ever will.

At least this op-ed (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/07/16/opinion/16tierney.html) by John Tierney sifts through some of the bs the media has been putting out.

Some more info (only for those who can handle slightly biased sources, though):

Because they want to live up to their Jayson Blair journalistic standards.

BrokenGlassCan has something -- there's reputation to consider.

I expect it will all come out soon -- I hope it's not through some bi-partisal "panel" that will filter every fact and spin every conclusion. In my wildest dreams the facts will be disclosed in the context of journalistic tradition and recognized standards of behavior ---- then let us sort it out.

Gosh, maybe because it's the most prominent American newspaper, our "newspaper of record"?

I almost forgot that you are a fascist that supports treason, torture, and murder.

Check the archives. I told you jackboots that this was coming down the pike a year ago. The White House coverup kept it off the front pages to get past the November Elections. Bush would have lost in a landslide. He still is lost.
He and Cheney are far more guilty of obstruction than RMN.

How does being "the newspaper of record" justify being elbow deep in this supposed scandal? Much less having committed a far worse crime of actually exposing real covert agents?

Only because the NYT says so.

I'm not sure how you qualify the NYT as being "elbow deep" is this scandal (and its not supposed). Neither Miller nor Cooper published anything, in the Times or elsewhere, about the identity of any CIA agents. That was Mr. Novak. Ms. Miller, a cheerleader for the Adminstration leading up the invasion of Iraq, and for a long time after, and Mr. Cooper, are reporters who were contacted by various people within the Bush Administration, including Rove, who gave up the name of Valerie Plame,(or Joe Wilson's wife, if you prefer)

They are more actively involved in this "scandal" than any other news organization.

But please, Mt. Smalls, tell me you're not one of the few loons left that actually believe Rove did anything illegal or wrong.

How is the NYT "more actively involved"?? Because one of their reporters is in Jail?

Matt Cooper works for Newsweek. Novak's column wasn't printed in the Times.

Wilson's LTE was printed in the Times, but if I had something of that magnitude, I would take to the paper with the largest circulation that would print it. I'm sure that the Washington "Moonie" Times wouldn't have. The WaPost might have.

So the Times has ONE reporter in Jail. And they printed the original LTE. How again does that put them "elbow" deep in this story, considering its been the lead story of every major news outlet the last three days??
