About an hour ago. Im still pretty stoned but I was surprised at how quick and painless everything went. When they tried to wake my up I was feeling GOOOOOD. And the pain pills are on the way. Anyone have any advice/horror stories?

Get yourself some beer to go with those painkillers.

Put ice on your cheeks right away. It will keep you from looking like a chipmunk later. Seriously. Ice Ice Ice.

Be careful making purchases on the drugs. The only reason I have a PS2 is because I got really bored after getting my wisdom teeth out, and went out and spent $600 on the PS2 and every game I wanted.

Maybe it didn't turn out that badly, but I could really use that money for something better right now. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I felt fine for the first two days afterwards then the pain was pretty intense. Pain pills are good. So is ice.

I had all four of mine taken out at the same time. wasn't that bad. I thought it was gonna be much worse.

the next few days were pretty bad. I was eating noodles mostly. then, I was able to eat solid foods. no horror stories. I think it's no big deal.

You do NOT want dry sockets. Keep yer yap clean. Salt water rinses, listerine, whatever it takes to ward off infection.

I think I had the worst wisdom tooth extraction ever. After I had mine removed I was down 6 teeth, had my jaw wired shut, and they had opened up my left leg, making it hard for me to walk for a few days. I got a prescription for percoset but I never figured out how to take them considering my mouth didn't open.

It's been nearly 30 years since I had my wisdom teeth removed. I used the pain killers but didn't really need them that bad, but heck, I wasn't going to let good drugs go to waste. I actually went hiking two days after. I was a little sore for a few days, but nothing too bad. The drugs they used during the surgery were incredible. I was semi-conscious through the procedure, but so stoned that it probably wouldn't have bothered me too much if they'd told me they were going to take off my balls while they were at it. Fortunately, they didn't do that. It certainly didn't bother me when they apparently had to crush one of the teeth to get it out. Also, the nurse kept telling me to take a deep breath. I guess I was forgetting to breathe.

supposedly (according to my dentist) tops are way easier than the bottoms (how's this turn into a BigSteve thread?). fwiw, I had my top two removed last year and it was pretty simple with almost zero recovery time needed. I don't remember about when I had my bottom two done (back in high school), but it wasn't that bad either.

agreed, word of caution, though. rinse with water/salt water, but not listerine. supposedly (again according to my dentist), the stuff in mouthwash that kills bacteria also kills/slows the growth of the new tissue in your mouth. took me forever to grow out that hole in my mouth because I was washing with mouthwash and not telling my dentist what I was doing. once I stopped, though, the holes filled in nicely.

Had all four of mine removed sans anesthesia (I get very sick from it). What a nightmare. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

i had all four out, two impacted. managed to get in a car crash, and very nearly a fight (unrelated) within 36 hours of surgery. tip: if your stitches come out early, get those bad boys restitched. i still have a bit of a hole three years later where my bottom left wtooth used to be.

I had mine out a couple of years ago. I had heard horror stories, so I was a bit apprehensive going in. I didn't even realize I was going to sleep; suddenly they were helping me out of the chair telling me they were done /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Got home, popped some Vicodin, and watched DVDs and dozed for 2 days. No problems, and only had a bit of pain a couple of days later. I can't believe how lucky I got!

If you can, save some Vicodin for use later- it does wonders for stress headaches back and neck problems too.

I had 2 bottoms done at different times.
Both grew sideways towards the front of my face and were inside my gums.

Took 2 hours for EACH and I was awake for both!!

First one was infected and I got a sore throat that was so painful I went into convulsions on top of the fever I had. Could not move my jaw whatsoever. Couldn't eat for 3 days, could not swallow because my throat was so swollen. Tylenol 3 lasted 1 hour tops for pain relief. Didn't sleep in 3 days.

2nd one not so bad, but the wisdom tooth was lodged under the tooth in front of it. Dentist had to do some cutting, breaking, chiselling, and digging to get it out. The local anisthetic had to be reinjected every 15min and each time it was injected, there was less and less effect. Also, there is a limit on how many injections you can have. Near the end, while he was digging with tweezers to get the fragments of my tooth, there was no anisthetic left. PURE PAIN.

I should've went to a specialist, by my dentist was greedy and wants the money.

I had all 7 (yes, 7) of my wisdom teeth out, and it was no big deal. I was apparently awake for the procedure, but I have no memory of it (they call it twilight sleep). I felt fine afterwards and wanted to go out that night, but my mom wouldn't let me (I was 14 at the time).
