Long story short, my fridge hasn't been working for the last 11 months. It's fixed now. What's the first thing I should make?

Make? Um, ice water?

New York baby. What do you want to eat? It'll get delivered.

I had a working fridge last year at school (Sep-May) but it never held more than soda, milk and beer.

I am interested in the longer story. What gave this problem momentum after 11 months of inertia?

Fair enough, there's no way I could live on take out for more than a week. Of course, that reflects more on the quality of British food than anything else.

You know you *could* have gotten a fridge delivered. Although since I eat out 90% of the time, I can't really help you with the OP

Good job hustling to get that fixed.

I recommend you get some Fla-Vor-Ice.

Chicken....and chill some beverages.

Ice.

How could you live without ice within your reach?

After that have some eggs (the remains of the carton which you will then refrigerate) and bacon (the remainder of the uncooked bacon you should then refrigerate) on toast where you put your very own refrigerated butter on it. Accompany with orange juice from your very own fridge.

I can perfectly understand eating fast food for 11 months, but how in the hell did you get by without cold beer for 11 months?

One doesn't make beer. That was purchased first, of course.

The answer is brown chicken stock. Paul came closest.

Of all the foods out there, broth is your answer? Unless you have a bad headcold, there's something very wrong with this.

Lots of things require chicken stock and it keeps in the freezer for just about forever.

Going from never cooking at all, to cooking things that involve chicken stock is a big leap. Most people tend to start with stuff that comes in cardboard boxes /images/graemlins/smile.gif.

I have to agree with the first part of this. Chicken stock is important, but doesn't seem like it would be first on my list.

It bothers me that people don't read the whole post before responding. I blame threaded mode, which as all smart people know- is horrible.

Not doing this would keep mid-high posters from looking like asses in that 100/200 hand thread.

remember to start with cold water, don't boil, and don't cover. also measure the amounts you're going to freeze so you don't have to guess how much frozen stock you have.

Trick question... the real question should be "what should I put in my newly working fridge first?"

The answer is obvious:
