Taking a long flight soon, and need some new cd's. Thought this might be a good way. My list is:

1: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

Put up a thread about this group a month ago, and have been liking them more and more ever since. If you haven't already, I recommend going to their site (same name no spaces) and downloading the three sample songs on there. Then order the cd, it is even better.

2: Fiery Furnaces - EP

Not as amazing as Blueberry Boat IMO, but a lot easier to just put on and listen to. The feel is a bit different as well. I really think The Fiery Furnaces are one of the best bands out there, and anyone who hasn't listened to them should. This is a good cd to start with in any case. Besides that, they show a different take of their music when they perform live, so tell ticketmaster to inform you when they play in your area.

3: Sufjan Stevens - Illinois

CMI sent me this cd less than a week ago, and I already love it. In two weeks time it may move up the list (or perhaps down), but I pretty much can't stop listening to it. Kinda a time investment, but well worth it, with some of the best songs at the end.

4: The Boy Least Likely To - The Best Party Ever

This cd is kinda inconsistent, but well worth owning. Three songs on the cd are each amazing enough to make me really want this band to release a full length album. Order it from insound (or download I suppose), I don't think you will be disappointed.

5. Spoon - Gimme Fiction

Actually my least favorite spoon cd, but that is really just a testament to how good of a band spoon is. Also - they put on a fantastic show, and I recommend seeing them even if you have to drive five and a half hours to do so. Or fly. Unless you are scared of that. In which case just throw on OK Computer and cry yourself to sleep.

Honorable mentions:
Malkmus - Face the Truth
Sleater Kinney - The Woods
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm

Seriously, though, that'll change everyday. American Idiot and X and Y were mentioned right above, both excellent choices. So's Bloc Party (which is slowly growing on me), Spoon, hell, I could literally list 30 albums (at least) that are all awesome.

the white stripes - get behind me satan

...and you will know us by the trail of dead - worlds apart (definitely not their best album but a great band nonetheless)

nirvana - with the lights out (i cheated. this came out out towards at the very end of 2004 but it was so close to '05 i decided to count it.)

Also, I count The Go! Team as 2004, since that's when it came out on import and when I got it. Obviously it would be #1 of whatever year it's considered.

Im wide awake its morning is definitely in my top 5....it also ranks in my favorite cds of all time soooooo...no reason to hate on it or be ashamed.

Im still looking foward to the new Coheed and Cambria release and am sorely disappointed that Brand New has pushed their cd back so far it probably wont make 2k5.

Beck's cd was kinda weak....Picaresque is good...Bloc party might squeeze into my top 5.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Out Hud's Let Us Never Speak of It Again, but it takes the top spot just edging out Cloud Cult. Here's my top 5...

1) Out Hud - Let Us Never Speak of It Again
2) Cloud Cult - Advice from the Happy Hippopotamus
3) Of Montreal - Sunlandic Twins
4) Andrew Bird - ...and the Mysterious Production of Eggs
5) The Kills - No Wow

The 5th spot could be taken by a lot, but I went for being different. I could've said Bloc Party, Beck, CYH,SY, De Novo Dahl, The Information...

And I'm done...

It was good times, I'm trying to figure out if I want to post a trip report on here or not. I've got plenty of pictures but pitchfork is running this 4 part recap of it and I really don't have the equipment nor the VIP access necessary to get pictures like they got. On the other hand, I did take some video on my camera, including a new Go! Team song (yeah, it's crappy quality, but you can get the gist of it). Also, I may or may not be singing along to some stuff in some of the videos.

But yeah, The Wrens won best of show for me and Go! Team comes in 2nd with the Decemberists 3rd.

Yeah, maybe I'll post a trip report, but there was hardly enough getting crunked going on to make it interesting besides the stuff about the bands.

Um...Eloquant and elasticated alternative rock? Ok, that's a description of Bloc Party I got from some British DJ, but um...I think it's close enough.

Bloc Party fans will probably like Hard-Fi more laid back but similar vibe Clashy type sound. Tied up Too tight and Cash Machine are their singles.

Hard-Fi Official Site (http://www.hard-fi.com/flash.html)

Videos of their singles on there.
