I'm somewhat new to the world of poker. I've had lots of success at home games and local tournaments for about a year. I recently have started playing online (when I turned 19 and got a credit card). I've had success so far in .25/.50 LHE games, .10/.25 NLHE and .25/.50 NLHE. I discovered this site a short time ago and it has helped to improve my game. I've read the beginners sticky at the top and have one question in regards to books. Should I read the books mentioned in the order reccomended regardless of if I'm playing limit or no limit? Is it good to focus on one at first or try and learn both at the same pace? Thanks a lot for any input.

Getting Started in Hold em by Ed Miller covers limit and NL -- sound right up yr alley. I suggest you get it.

One opinion on limit vs. NL:

Some other considerations:

My position is you should learn whatever interests you. If you want to maximize your hourly earn, go to law school instead. /images/graemlins/smile.gif But more to the point, I agree GSIH is a good starting point to learn both, and from there you can and should follow up whatever takes hold of your fancy. They're similar enough that learning one won't be a waste of time if you decide to specialize in the other -- just be aware that they are very different and much adjustment is needed before you blindly apply principles across games.

Thanks for the law school advice. Don't worry I'm in my 2nd year of Engineering. Just found a hobby that can turn out to hopefully be profitable.
