View Full Version : What's Your Favorite Love Story?

The Dude

So, I watched a movie today and realized that the storyline between two characters is my favorite love story. The movie isn't primarily a love story, but there it was.

What are yours?

I thought the movie "The Jerk" had a poignant love story.

Pretty much any movie where Gauge or Tawny Roberts was involved in the "love story."

Did you honestly think this thread would not become about porn?

The only weak thing about this is your self-doubt. That's a great movie.

I think the biggest reasons the story I mentioned is my favorite is because I really like the characters, and the interaction between the two is brilliant.

Smartass answer: Deliverance. "Yew got a real purdy mouth."

Real answer: Crouching Tiger.

If anyone says Titanic I may be forced to hunt them down and kill them slowly.

One of the best I love stories I can remember was a book called The Bridge Across Forever (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/sim-explorer/explore-items/-/0440108268/0/101/1/none/purchase/ref%3Dpd%5Fsxp%5Fr0/103-4048486-2349411). I have no idea how I ended up reading it (I think I was on vacation and borrowed it...was a long time ago), but it was really pretty good.

Bridges of Madison County is a great movie, and a great love story. Eastwood is the man.

For a serious answer, I'll say the book "Love & Glory" by Robert Parker.

Have you read the book? The movie skips over the part in the book about how the girl was a total moron, and Westley just wanted her cause she was the hottest in the kingdom. It's kind of a satire, actually.

Unfortunately, I did see this movie. I probably rented thinking it would be a typical Eastwood flick. I even watched the whole thing figuring it would eventually get better, but alas, it never did.

I would rate it as one of the worst movies I've ever seen, and I generally like character-based movies. But, to each his own.

it must not be a "traditional" love story then.

maybe you're alluding to a father/son or a friendship type of story instead of a man/woman romance.

You're right, it's not. I'm not going to make a big explanation out of why, because I just had a big conversation about it today with somebody, but it's Kill Bill.

And my fascination for the love story in this movie goes beyond just a general thought that it's one of the greatest movies ever made, I really, really enjoy the storyline between the two.

The Notebook was the first thing that came to mind, and even after reading the topic, I'll have to stick with it. I prefer Kill Bill and The Princess Bride as complete movies, but if I'm just focusing on the love story aspect, The Notebook is about as good as it gets.

True Romance was a nice selection as well.

bliss - its a film based on a book by peter carey - it starts off as the ramblings of a man who is unsure whether he is dead or not - he keeps a notebook of events to decide if he is in hell - when your son is paying your daughter for fellatio and your wife is rubbing uglies with your business partner its hard to tell - it develops into a fantastic love story - the surreal sex scenes are unforgettable

true romance would be my more mainstream choice
