Basic question, If most starting hands are unprofitable in the "long run" then how do you play poker and win money.

For example, my data base of 60,000 hands shows JJ as about a break even. This is not too exciting to realize.

Im no probability expert, but identifying situations where JJ is, and inst, profitable would be a good start. Im pretty sure JJ isnt unprofitable in all situations/positions/V's all opponent types.

this is certainly a result of people badly overplaying JJ. JJ is a profitable hand when played correctly.
