For the past two weeks I have been absolutely addicted to watching the new version of Battlestar Galactica. I want to make it more popular because frankly this is a very very good TV show. I know what many of you thinking, Popinjay = nerdboy. While this may or may not be true BSG is a lot more than space porn for nerds. Diane Werts explained it nicely in her Newsday article (http://www.newsday.com/entertainment/news/ny-fftv4333450jul10,0,5093530.story),

[ QUOTE ]
Rodney Dangerfield was wrong. It's sci-fi TV that don't get no respect.

Case in point: A vice president in the TV industry recently asked me what TV shows I watch for enjoyment. I mentioned my favorite is "Battlestar Galactica" on Sci Fi Channel. She laughed. I asked if she'd seen it. No, she said, and laughed again. Did she know, I asked, that it's a gritty adult drama of family members and colleagues in deep-rooted conflict not unlike that of "The Sopranos"? That they're part of a civilization struggling not only to survive but to define itself amid messy terrorist warfare? That it explores the values of competing societies that demonize each other's spiritual beliefs? That it's full of gutsy acting by the likes of Edward James Olmos and sophisticated allegory mirroring today's global politics?

[/ QUOTE ]

So seriously, don't knock this show until you've seen it. That said it is a hard show to watch if you haven't seen most of it the previous episodes (therefore the BSG Season 2 premiere on Sci-fi tonight probably isn't good idea for first-time viewers). However, have no fear OOT because I've specially uploaded the 3hr long mini-series movie that started the whole show. Now since I'm not a rich man I've had to do split it up into archived parts.

I used rapidshare.de so for each of these links you'll have to go to the page, scroll to the bottom, hit the free button, again scroll to the bottom, wait several seconds for the link to appear, then download. Once all 8 parts are downloaded you'll need WinRAR (http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm) to extract the movie. Any of the 8 parts (assuming they are all in the same folder) should be able to extract. Here are the links:

Part 1 (http://rapidshare.de/files/3075438/twgms.part1.rar.html)
Part 2 (http://rapidshare.de/files/3076398/twgms.part2.rar.html)
Part 3 (http://rapidshare.de/files/3076998/twgms.part3.rar.html)
Part 4 (http://rapidshare.de/files/3077649/twgms.part4.rar.html)
Part 5 (http://rapidshare.de/files/3078746/twgms.part5.rar.html)
Part 6 (http://rapidshare.de/files/3079599/twgms.part6.rar.html)
Part 7 (http://rapidshare.de/files/3080333/twgms.part7.rar.html)
Part 8 (http://rapidshare.de/files/3080469/twgms.part8.rar.html)

Edit: @#!$ The site only lets you download one of these links per hour. If some 2+2'er has online space and bandwidth to spare I'll be happy to upload it there. Otherwise you'll just have to come back to this thread every hour until it's done. Sucks I know and I'm sorry.

Each part is about 45MB large except for part 8 which is only around 10MB. It shouldn't take long if you're on broadband. Let me know what you guys think of the show.

Oh and to make this OOT thread complete here are two more reasons to watch:

My wife was watching the marathon they had last week. I was sitting next to her <font color="white"> playing poker </font> .

I was wary at first, but this is an excellent show. We're planning our evening around it tonight - for real. Other than sporting events, I don't remember the last time I actually planned to watch a tv show.

The episodes are serial, and the rules of the BSG universe are complicated For example (lengthyrun-onsentence)

Cylons were once robots but evolved into organic beings that believe in God but real humans don't believe in God but believe in the gods and there's a way to detect cylon spies but the guy who developed it is under cylon mind-control and Edward James Olmos has terrible skin.

I have been meaning to get into this show for a month or two. For some reason I thought that there was a prologue/miniseries before the real series started that I would have to find and watch. Am I way off base?

What I uploaded is what you are talking about. Unfortunately due to setbacks I did not forsee it's gonna take a while to download.

For once we are ahead of you and we got the series before you guys, excellent series one or two slow episodes but generally good stuff.

Just reread and maybe you are getting series two before us /images/graemlins/mad.gif Are you classing the extended mini as season 1?

I pretty much think the mini-series is the first episode and therefore Season 1. If you don't watch it you miss out on a lot. And yes Season 2 is premiering tonight in the US. Weee!

Is this available via Netflix? I suppose I could check, but that would require effort.

Yes the mini-series I uploaded is on Netflix. Unfortunately the season 1 DVD isn't out in the US yet (will be in a couple weeks, July 26th IIRC).

Torrent (http://www.torrentspy.com/search.asp?mode=torrentdetails&amp;id=203640&amp;query=bat tlestar) for a digital rip of the miniseries and entire first season. Be warned, it is 5.81GB so only download if you are really interested in watching a lot of Battlestar Galactica.

Having been a HUGE fan of the original BattleStar, I was wary because they were changing Boomer to be a hot Asian chick, and changing Starbuck to be a cute and feisty blond chick.

I think they've done a great job with the show, and my girl Jenn and I watch it religiously. She was a huge fan of FarScape, and now that Ben Browder is on Stargate SG-1 we spend Friday night watching 3 hours of Sci-Fi. Must see TV for us.

Everyone should already know that I love this show.

It's quite good, and I hope we get a solid 6-8 seasons out of it.

For what it's worth, I was also a big fan of Babylon 5, although I actually didn't come across it until it was off the air and in rerun mode.

Farscape was another show I enjoyed. It's a shame, a lot of great shows never get to stick around. Off-topic as far as Sci-Fi goes, I really enjoyed the humor of Greg The Bunny, a comedy with puppets (Count Blah rocked, blah!)

But, I don't think it lasted longer than a season. I've got it on DVD now and of course ALF the first season! Still waiting for Perfect Strangers on DVD, that show from the 80's with Balki from Meepos who ate Pig Snout!
