PP 400 NL 6-max

Hero (400) BB A/images/graemlins/diamond.gifA/images/graemlins/heart.gif
Villain (400) SB
Others of no interest

Preflop
A limper or two, and villain (the SB) makes a minraise to 8. Hero makes it 30, folded to villain who calls (I now put him on a pair of some sort).

Flop (70)
5/images/graemlins/spade.gif3/images/graemlins/spade.gif2/images/graemlins/diamond.gif
Villain leads for 54 .... whats my plan for the hand ?

I've not been here long, and I dont have anything read-worthy on villain.

Raise to $150 and fold to a push?

I like calling his ass down.

You gotta push, only reasonable hands that are beating you now are 55, 33 and 22. He may be betting out to try to take the pot right here if he thinks you have two high cards ... he may have an overpair. I think a raise is safe to do.

what is reason for raising?

I'm not saying raise is wrong but I would like to know the reason for it.

On a rainbow board, I like the call down, especially since I don't think the villain will minraise out of the SB with 55,33,22. But here, where you don't hold the As, I like trying to build the pot on the flop and get it in on the turn.

I don't think villain has flush draw but perhaps getting it in earlier is better for me to prevent spade from killing my action.

I like call, raise/bet any turn.

I think your ahead more than 50 % of the time here. The only likely hand that beat you would be the set. Without a good enough read it's unlikely that villian has a straight draw here. Possibly AK /images/graemlins/spade.gif or QQ KK JJ TT 99. These hands are more likly to be Villians holding than 55,33,44 or 67s. I would re-raise toaroung 150, if he pushes i'd call and hope. If he checks turn I would bet aroung 100-175. I just think that there are a lot of hands that he could be doing this with. I would go to the end here 95% of the time considering the lack of read.

Go with your read (you thought he had a pp, and his betting actions say that's a strong option)....and call the flop bet. A push here tells him you have AA or KK and that he should fold if he can't beat that, which he probably will most often. If he himself has trips, you're in trouble, no matter what u do. If he has 66-QQ, which seem to be likely holdings, you're call gives him hope that he is best, and he may lead into you on the turn, and then you push there. If he checks the turn, string him along with a 3/4 pot bet.

Well - I think this is one of the hardest situations. If I flat call and he leads hard again at the turn ... what do I do ? This is the hard part - can I avoid going to the felt here ? With my reraise, and a flat call on the flop, its sure that villain knows I have a big pair. So if he bets the turn ... do I fold ? Do I go to the felt willingly ?

Anyway - the story ends well.

I flat called - the turn was a A/images/graemlins/club.gif Villain led for 100, I pushed and he called with 33, and MHIG.
