I played this hand at PokerStars on their .10/.25 PL Hold em table. I know my call pre flop was not so good, but I planed on folding anything other than set and figured to break them if i caught. I wasnt worried about the bigger set because the big raises usually came from A + big sooted while big pairs usually just limped. Was the flop bet good?

Bigtoad,

Please post hands in text form.

The preflop call, intention to fold if you missed the set, and flop bet were fine. Just another bad beat.

It is a bad beat (unless the third player had AA or QQ - we'll never know). But I am not sure about betting the flop.

Having taken a shot at a set (for too much of your stack in my opinion: normally 10% is the max to risk to hit a set, so you can get paid off enough to make it worthwhile) and hit, with the A and Q on board, shouldn't you be looking to trap the likely big ace?

You can more than likely check-raise all-in here. Why not do that? By betting out, almost all-in, you give AK a chance to get away from the hand. If you check and AK bets, your all-in raise will be so small he has to call, and you're a huge favourite.

Guy.

Stackwise, the preflop call was for $3.25 against multiple opponents, one of whom had your $40 reserve covered. Plus in microlimit for all you know two people will pay you off.

Here it didn't matter whether BigToad bet, because the money's going all in. In general, you want to lead at the flop with a big hand. It increases your chances of getting the money all in.

........there is good news for him. He's not the worst player in the game. Who calls a pot-size bet with a 4 out straight draw with nothing left to win when you hit? A piker, that's who.

Preflop he had $23 and called $4.25 and got 3 callers. If this player assumes he can double up which he stated in his post. If just one player calls his $18.75 left he is getting approx. 7.5-1 on his original $4.25 but if multiple people call as did happen on this hand, he is getting in the range of 10/20-1 on flopping his set. Even after factoring in the slim chance of flopping a lower set this play has a big positive EV and should be done every time.

You're right. That's why I hate hand histories. BigToad, looked to me like you were the one with over $40 with another caller with that much. With $18 behind after calling $3.25, you're gambling, but just a little given all them callers.

But you CAME HERE TO GAMBLE!!! WHY ELSE WOULD YOU BE PLAYING DEGENERATE ONLINE SLAPHAPPY MICRO NO LIMIT WITH A BUNCH OF E-CHIP-PUSHING, E-CASH-BURNING POKER CRACKHEADS??? I SAY JOEYBITCH 'EM!!! IT'S ONLY $20!!! NOTHIN' BUT THREE HOURS OF WORK AT STARBUCKS AFTER TAXES. BUST A CAPUCCINO IN THEIR COLLECTIVE ASS!!!

Where's limon when we need him.
