In about a month, the entire clan will be heading to Northwest WI for fishing and drinking and sneaking away for some poker. I know the main info about the St. Croix Casino and poker room, but was wondering if anyone had anything to share about the current NL scene.

FWIW, my Brother(2+2'er SirTimo) and I plan on playing the Thursday Magoo NL Open on 8/25.

Their website is pretty unhelpful.

Are you referring to the Heartland event? They have satellites every Thurs to get in.

I played the Heartland event at Northern Lights last month.
As long as their are satellites, there will be donks and magoos. One guy that I thought was a better player did the ol' "you probably have a straight, but I have to call with top 2 pair". He doubled up. Another guy calls my all-in which was called. Magoo has 9/10 soooted and flops a straight...I would have beat what should have been the only caller. The high point was chip-crippling one of the St. Croix dealers who was there with the crew to check out Heartland.

You'll see the usual tournament suspects up at St. Croix that week from around the circuit (Jackpot Junction, Canterbury, Hinckly, etc).

No. I was referring to their regular tournament scheduled on Thursdays.

Is there a larger event going on that week?

Yes check their website again and go here (http://www.heartlandpokertour.com/index.htm)

The regular magoo tourneys on Thur are okay, but the starting chip stack is low and the blinds go up fast.

Also, avoid the free hot dogs in the poker room. Maybe it's just me, but they give me an upset stomach and the runs. Get the $3 prime rib samiches in the snack bar /images/graemlins/wink.gif
