Is a monitor that does 1600x1200 really necessary for 4 tabling effecitvly? I am considering buying a new monitor and am a small stakes player (Currently 1024x768).

I have just linked up my VERY old 19"CRT to my laptop to try out 1280x1024 and you can fit 4 tables in comfortably if you hide the chat boxes and part of the edge players names?

I am building up the number of tables I play and think that buying a monitor with a high resolution purely for poker would be a waste when they are nearly 2x as expensive as 1280 monitors.

Does anyone 4table at 1280x1024 and how do you find it? Also anyone who have made the jump from 1280x1024 to 1600x1200, is the difference worth the extra price?

It's like flying first class, once you do it you wonder how you ever got along flying coach and will never fly coach again.

Once you go UXGA, you never go back.

I wondered what all the fuss was until I played on a 1600x1200, its fantastic. If you are cost conscious, you can get a 19" or 21" CRT that does 1600x1200, or go all out and get the LCD and be very happy about it.

I four-tabled on a 1280x1024 for about a year. I finally gave in and got a 1600x1200 LCD. I agree completely with both of the above posters, and I can't imagine ever going back, or why anyone who has a choice wouldn't go with 1600x1200. If you can afford it, it is definitly worth it IMO. Also, from what I've heard, 1600x1200 on an LCD is alot easier on the eyes than 1600x1200 CRT.

yes it is worth it. I have a 19" Sony LCD that is great, but then I bought a Dell 2001fp and what a difference it makes. Normally I use both moniters on 1280 X 1024. When I four table for Party/Empire/Intertops bonuses I switch it down to 1600 X 1200. The differences are incredible. I won't ever go back. All I have to do now is to make enough to get a second Dell moniter. Then ebay the Sony.

The Sony has a 1/2 table overlap. Sitting in a corner of the table is okay and you CAN get your four positions on the tables, and see them all. But the 1600 X 1200 is still better. The Sony isn't bad and is just as much as the Dell (after coupons).

I have a Samsung 19" CRT I bought at Best Buy for $179. Hard to beat for that kind of money, and 4 table with no overlap. Once you try 1600x1200, you'll never go back.

Oh, that does look good. At 5/10 you must pay for that pretty quick but I am only at 0.5/1. Hmmmmmmm, may use the CRT when I upgrade and wait a while instead of getting a lower TFT

4 tabling 1280x1024 is not an option. Significant overlap, huge pain in the ass. I have 2 screens a 1600 and a 1280, I've tried both. I don't think I could live without my 2001fp now.

I agree with you on this one. I got mine about a month ago and could never play without 1600 x 1200 again. It makes multitabling much easier.

You do know a 2001fp is around $900 in the UK /images/graemlins/frown.gif

Its not that easy for a low limit player

$900 is a (break even) months worth of bonus whoring, but if money is the issue, as it was with me, go for the 19" CRT. They can be had for $100-$150. 1600x1200 makes ALL the difference.

my old lap-top did 1400x1050 which was surviveable.
my CRT that I attached to it was 1600x1200 which was much better.
my current laptop is 1900x1200 which rocks.

I've done it at the 1200x800 res back in the day as well on my old, old monitor and it sucked.

You just don't get to see all the tables at the same time.

Considering that you can get a CRT that does 1600x1200 for under $200 I would consider going this route.

Any mods that work with stud tables as well?

search for a 21" flat screen crt on ebay. you can get a good 1600x1200 monitor with good refresh rate for $100 after shipping. ive done this and am happy.

i played 4 tables for about 2 years on a CRT 1280x1024. i thought whats the big deal about 1600x1200. i then slowly added a fifth and sixth table. after misclicking too many times and since poker is a game of info, i decided to get the LCD 1600x1200. now i four table on the 1600x1200 with no overlap and put two or three tables on the CRT. saving the roll for a second LCD 1600x1200.

if you use poker for supplemental or a majority of your income, i think the 1600x1200 is worth it. LCD or CRT is up too you depending on finances.

I just went to 2048*1536 and I can't imagine going back to 16*12 even, it's really amazing. Suprised I don't hear about more people here using this.

B/c you can't 6-table w/o overlap on this. Somewhat overkill I guess.

True, but the overlap is pretty minimal, 3 fit perfectly vertically covering pretty much only the chat box (which I rarely use anyway), and 2 horizontally leaves room leftover for some smaller apps.

12 tables setup very nicely on my two monitors, now I just need to get a pc that doesn't slow to a crawl w/ over 5 tables going. /images/graemlins/mad.gif

That's cool...just a matter of preference (and maybe cost) I guess. I'm using the 1920x1200 on the Dell 6000 laptop, which I really like. I'd like to get a 2001FP to add on. Which make/model are these monitors that you just upgraded to?

I got a deal from a friend of a friend on some old-school Compaq P110's (http://shopper.cnet.com/Compaq_P110_display_CRT_21/4014-3175_9-30910399.html?q=) from some graphic design company that was upgrading or something like that, 2 for $200. I did a quick search (http://www.winmag.com/library/1998/0501/rev0098.htm) or two and it seemed they were pretty serious when they came out ('98?), and from what I understand regular monitors haven't changed much (??) so I figured I couldn't go wrong.

Turns out they are f'ng huge. I have plenty of room so it's no big deal, but obviously that would be a factor for some. But the I gotta say the picture is brilliant, and I just love having so much room. heh, I get claustrophobic on my 17" now. /images/graemlins/crazy.gif

edit: Guess I should say what video card I have- the box says EVGA | Intelligent Innovation e-GeForce 6200 Graphics by nVIDIA. I can't remember how much he charged me off-hand, but I think it was like $200.
