I heard this one second hand last week.

A dealer at Foxwoods told a friend that Mohegan Sun has begun to hire dealers in order to re-open their poker room. The room would open "soon".

Has anyone else heard this, or does anyone have any more information?

I've heard similar from dealers at Foxwoods. Nothing about Mohegan hiring dealers, just that the room would be open soon. I also heard a dealer say Mohegan wasn't going to open a room for a long time, so who knows.

I used to work for Mohegan and have very good contacts that dealt poker. They will be the first ones offered their jobs back (most went to the pit, the rest quit). None have been offered or have heard anything. As soon as it does, you'll have an ad in the local papers for poker dealers and F'woods is going to have a mass exodus on their hands as Mohegan always was "go for your own" in poker like it should be. F'woods does just that...F the dealers in the poker room with their 6 days and 10 hour shifts and lousy "split the tokes with the pit dealers" philosophy. That is done partly because lots of pit dealers also work in the poker room, but I dont feel it's the best way to go.

If Mohegan opens their room back up, it will be done right. Poker dealers only. Not these craps dealers that learned poker in 1999 and haven't dealt since like F'Woods uses.

Joe-

Didn't the President of Mohegan recently go on the record with a card magazine that he didn't believe the region could support 2 poker rooms?

Now before all you fellow FWr's shout that the room is too crowded - from a business standpoint the room needs be filled 24/7. FW is just not that crowded during the week.

The only rumor that I believe has merit is that the FW room is moving downstairs in the next few months.

And Foxwoods is so well run and treats their players so well that Mohegan can't compete?

Unless there's a WPT non competitor clause that would prohibit the WPT from sanctioning an event at Mohegan, there's no reason a well run room at Mohegan couldn't steal business from Foxwoods.

I emailed Mohegan to ask them about their poker room plans. here is the response (and my original query)

Hello ,
Thank you for your email. At this time we have no future
plans of reinstating the Poker room.

Please continue to check our website for other games that we offer.

I am a foxwoods regular, generally to play poker. I think your casino is
nicer, but you do not have the game. there have been several rumors that
mohegan will "soon" reopen their poker room. is there any truth to this
rumor? i think there is a clear need for another poker venue, and one that
would carry higher limits such as 50-100 or 100-200 limit holdem.
thx

I've heard this from numerous dealers and floor people as well and believe it to be true. They were saying how with the low ceilings, some 2/4 player is gonna get a bad beat and punch the ceiling.

If they aren't gonna reopen the poker room could they at least start dealing drugs and pimping hookers again out of the keno room or something?

Wasn't the room at Foxwoods downstairs quite a few years ago...? I can't remember because I was too young to play, but I had been there and I swear it wasn't upstairs back then. Odd to be moving back down if that is the case. I wish they'd keep it upstairs and just take over the area of table games that are between the tournament area & the main poker area.

Where is this downstairs at Foxwoods? Are they going to take over some of the ballrooms or something?

Wishful thinking. If you're casino management, do you really want to rid yourself of those frequently packed mini-bacc, blackjack and roulette tables?

I believe they are taking over the non-smoking casino that is downstairs. If you go to the back of the poker room you will see the stairs. There are also stairs to go down in the Rainmaker Casino.
