Want to hear from guys who use hi res CRTs (1920x1440 and higher). What monitor do you use and how are your eyes when playing poker in hi res?

What sort of specs should I be looking for?

High refresh rates (at LEAST 75Hz, preferably 80+). A lower-end monitor just barely making 1920 may be likely to have refresh rates too low (causes eye strain/fatigue and even headaches).

Resolution really is a personal thing - some ppl just can't deal with tiny screen images. I run 1600 on a 19" but ran > on a Sun 21" which is the least I'd want after trying 1920 on my 19". But that's a personal thing - try the setting at a computer store and see if you think 19" is enough.

Also realize >= 19" CRT is going to weigh a ton.

I would rather use two good 1600*1200 monitors instead. A monitor that has a good picture at 1920 is often pretty expencive, and requeres a realy good graphics card (quality wise). I only had one monitor that could do 1920, it was a samsung 21" (1100DF, max res was 2048*1536@75hz), biggest monitor I ever seen. Very heavy too, pain in the ass to move. Was not that good at 1920, in fact it was bad enough at 1600 so I trashed it. Also I would never recomend running a CRT bellow 85hz, it is too bad for your eyes.

I have 2 Dell P1110's and love them.

Run them at 1600x1200 at 85 hertz

My next one will be a Samsung TFT, 213T. Cost alot, but well worth the money. Anandtech compares Compaqs 2001fp and Samsung 213T here (http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1974). Essentialy, if you do alot of 3D gaming, chose 2001fp, otherwise 213T is the easy pick.

"Even though the Dell 2001FP is a high end device, the SyncMaster 213T is the definitive ultra-enthusiast device. We were particularly impressed with contrast, glare and dark value divergence between the 213T and the 2001FP. In our opinion, the 2001FP is the better gaming monitor. However as a workstation LCD, the SyncMaster 213T is unparalleled. DVD playback has no equal to anything we have tested over the last two years, and the additional screen space goes a long way. The brighter panel goes a long way in our opinion."

Best CRT I ever had was a Samsung 19" 959NF. Best picture quality I have ever seen in a CRT in 1600*1200@85hz. Too bad I had to send it back, beacuse it sounded alot. Instead of waiting for a new one (they were out of stock, was second time I sent it in) I chose 1100DF instead. Didn't like that one, smashed it, bought a ultrabad viewsonic witch I trashed also and now have a Samsung 710T untill I can afford the 213T.

hey mindgoing:

i purchased a 213T last week at best buy. list price was ~$900 with a mail in rebate for $150 so net is $750. the 2100fp is ~$560 before tax and shipping so gross may be $600.

do you think the 213T is worth the extra $150? sure, its an inch bigger but..... i am going to get another LCD 1600x1200 to replace my second monitor which is a CRT. i read your above posts so i guess i have answered my own question. never mind unless you wanna add something.

I would easily pay the extra $150 for the 213T. I want one too, NOW! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Buy.com was running a special on syncmasters 21.3t's last month.

687.99 delivered (and no tax to ohio) with 100 mail in rebate. Net price 587.99.. (alas I'm still waiting on my rebate)

They seem to run this rebate every 3rd month (for the last year)

This is my second one :-)

Too bad I live in Sweden, they cost about $1000 here. Forget about finding any rebate here.
