Hey, I'm gonna be buying a digital camera pretty quick here and it's dawned on me that I have no freakin' clue what I'm doing. I'm going over the review sites and they're all blending together to me. So I was hoping to unleash the awesome power of OOT.

Can anyone make any recommendations? These are my preferred criteria, in decreasing order of importance:

1) ~5.1MP
2) Li-ion battery
3) Decent optical zoom
4) As much manual control as possible; ISO settings, shutter speeds, and other stuff that I don't know about but want to learn
5) Small size. Preferably in an ultracompact. Is this mutually exclusive with point 4?

Just wait a year and buy a 5 MP camera phone. Then you can take pictures of women's asses and upskirts. YAY !!

Hey, Paris Hilton trademarked that. I hope you have a good lawyer.

Why couldn't I do this with a regular camera, as long as I'm sneaky about it?

I like my Canon PowerShot, the SD400 is the 5.0 mp version (http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=145&mode lid=11158). Super small so you actually carry it with you, never had a problem w/ canons (went from s200 to s400 a few months ago; next purchase will be this line as well.)
