What is the cheapest widely and regularly available beer?

I'm hoping there is something available for less than 50 cents a can.

I know this is going to make me sound like an A-hole, but if you are planning on purchasing this cheap beer, how hard is it to go to the store and simply......uhhhh.....buy their cheapest beer? Do you want us to call your local liquor store for you?

But since I'm sure there is a good reason for you asking....

...I would have to mention Milwaukee's Best, with a warning that there is a reason it is so cheap. Natural Lite tends to be pretty cheap as well. Both are widely available. Natural Lite is far less offensive. .50 a can is an easily attainable goal.

The cheapest beer is like 6 bucks a case (25 cents a can). Beast, Natty Ice, etc are about that much.

Brew your own at home for pennies a glass. Or you could drink water and pretend it is beer, kind of like playing poker for play money and pretending you are learning good habits! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Jimbo,

Have you actually brewed at home and calculated the expense? When I look at something like beermachine.com it seems as if minimum cost is 25 cents a can.

Is there some trick that you know?

Thx.

I use to get Schmit (sp?) beer for 99 cents a six-pack. That was a number of years ago, more than 20, I think. The cans had pictures of different animals on them, ducks etc. The "babes" that live in the next apartment use to get quarts of Old English 800, with the green label. Don't know how cheap that was but when the Schmit six-pack meet the Old Engish 800 quart, sparks flew. Of course that was back when the male equipment worked in a much more efficient manner than it does now. I now have to live off of cheap memories created by cheap beer. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

This is the other topics forum but you are pushing the envolope. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

mdlm,

I suppose you will not like this answer. "It depends" on what size glass you are using.

I've got an old collection of beer cans with many of those animal Schmidts.

For my money, the best inexpensive beer is Michelob. I don't know about cans; it's about 4 bucks for 6 bottles.

Hey Ray, I tried the Negro Modelo at your suggestion. Very excellent. I'd say it could be the best beer I've ever tried, or a close second to Pilsner Urquell.

Dunno about the states, but back in Scotland I regularly brewed beer in a big plastic tub with a 30W lightbulb underneath it. Just buy a tin of concentrate, bag of sugar and sachet of yeast. The rest is just water. Like Jimbo said - pennies - for a 750ml soda bottle full... /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

If you're clinical and careful, the beer can be excellent - tho' often yeasty (but I don't mind that like some folk do). There's no need to buy fancy equipment if that's what you're looking at.

Is Black Label still around? We used to drink that awful crap in high school. Since I never had any cash in high school, I can't imagine the cost was all that much especially with the couple of bucks we always had to give to the guy who pimped the beer for us.
