I went to the eye doctor today for the first time in two years. My perscription is now -4.2 -4.8. Last time they were both in the -3's. That seems like a pretty big jump to me. The glasses that i wear when i'm not wearing contacts are pretty thick now. I'm 19 and and wondering if most people with bad vision keep getting worse or does it plateau at some point?????

Yes it usually evens out after time. Mine did when I hit about 25.

20-550 right 20-650 left

I am 19 almost 20 and my eyes went from -3.5 to -4.0 in a year. When does it even out ? is it just like growing in general ?

My eyes were -1.25 when I was about 14 and now at 23 my eyes are -6.5. As far as I'm concerned, -4.2 and -4.8 is like having super vision.

Anyway, my vision has been pretty stable at about -6.5 for the past couple years. From what I've been told by opthomologists, it does tend to stabalize in most people by the age of 25.

-4.0 in both eyes, AND I'm an accomplished pilot. It's not a big deal at all.

I'll add to the chorus of stabilization.

But really you guys have nothing to worry about, as I'm currently at -10 and -11.25.

-7.5 and -8 + astigmatism and have been since early teens. I am so glad contact lenses exist.

It typically plateaus at about age 25. I would tell anyone to wait until then for laser eye surgery.

people with bad vision probably didnt live long enough to reproduce, so as a result there were probably very few people with bad vision in general since its hereditary.

I'm -7.5 as well. We both look pretty sweet in glasses.

I'm around 20/350. Legally blind.

Getting lasik when I'm 21 or 22, though. That's in a while.

ummm, there are lots of people with bad vision today, meaning that people with bad vision did reproduce.

You're only legally blind if your vision can't be corrected better than a certain point (20/200 or something like that). If you're correctable to 20/20 with contacts or glasses, you're not legally blind.

so -8.5 left and -7.5 right isn't very good?
I had heard it ususaly stops getting worse around 18-20 years old, but now I'm 22, and it's been getting worse pretty steadily since I was in 2nd grade.
Contact lenses are great. anyone use the kind you leave in overnight? I've left my 2 week disposable ones in overnight sometimes, and that pretty much sucked. I like the idea of leaving them in though
