All along they have been telling us that there were 5661 entrants in the main event.

Now, today, they say there are 5619 entrants. Something smells really really bad here.

It took them 3 days to figure out the numbers. That's, (pardon my French) $425,000 fuggin' dollars.

Someone suggested that the discrepancy was due to underage online qualifiers - if so WHERE IS THE MONEY. I didn't enter any qualifying events, but I'm sure many of you did, and if so your money was stolen from you.

As you can tell, I'm really upset with this - I have run many many tournaments (albeit not as large). You count the money right away and divide - nothing too difficult. To be off by $420,000 is INEXCUSEABLE.

From cardplayer.com on Thursday:

[ QUOTE ]

The official numbers that we've reported earlier (5,661 total players) are still unofficial, until they've been announced later in the day, along with the prize pool. That number represents the total number of registrants, but that number will decrease slightly for administrative reasons. Administrative reasons can include anything from duplicate entries to refunds (such as someone who was hospitalized). When the official numbers are announced, expect the number to be slightly lower

First of all, it's english, second of all, 42 x 10,000 is not 425,000. Go cry somewhere else.

Given your paranoia and lack of understanding of how the WSOP pays out, I figure you would be more concerned about the missing $3,371,390.

There are 5,619 players paying a $10,000 entry fee. That's $56,190,000. Yet, they're only paying out $52,818,610.

It looks like Harrah's is pocketing $3,371,390.

this has nothing to do with the money that was already taken off the top. this has to do with, for example, an online qualifier. What if you had played in a qualifier, come in second and the first place winner was found out to be underage? You wouldn't expect some kind of compensation?

I agree with most of the responses that it's not too suspicious, but I agree with the OP that it's mildly incompetant. Not obscenely incompetent for a first-time administrative problem, but mildly so.

I see no reason for anyone to jump on the OP's case. Apparently you are all content with people accounting for your money with malleable numbers.

Stars has their ass covered under T&C.It would be more productive to ELIMINATE the source of problem rather than trying to come up with a solution that is not going to please everybody. Example: fourth place finisher is not going to be happy because he got knocked out by underage kid and may have won.Why shouls second place get seat .

No underage kids playing.Problem solved.

if you divide the payout by the total tournament buyin it comes to almost exactly 6%. Which is acutally less IIRC the vig taken at last years ME, which was 8% right?

Last year, the juice for the 10K ME was 6% also.

Didn't think I'd see so much conspiracty theory on 2+ maybe I should go get my tin foil hat that I wear when I read RGP.

From the WSOP website:

"4% of the total entry pool will be withheld for the house. 2% of the total entry pool will be withheld for tournament staff"

That was some difficult 10-second research.
