my new pup is pretty well trained but has an accident now and again. yesterday he peed 3 times in my bathroom, most of it was on the tile but some seeped over and soaked into the area rug on the floor. i soaked it up right away, washed it with water, and then washed it with carpet cleaner. but my bathroom still smells like pee when you walk in. what can i do besides throw out the rug?

Try cleaning the rug with a vinegar/water solution,

If that doesn't work, get som Febreeze, that stuff actually worked well with my dog's pee spots.

One of the only things that really works is that enzyme-based stuff. There are different brands and it seemed to me some worked much better than others. Anyway, this stuff actually works. But you may have to soak the carpet padding, too, as you can do a lot of deodorizing of the carpet and still get quite a stink from the padding underneath. That stuff can stay moist for a long time, too.

Unfortunately, the stuff is kind of expensive, and not all brands work well. It's not flawless either. But it can help a lot.

You can get this stuff at PetsMart or probably most pet stores. I have used it myself and it works great...The Queen of Clean also gives it her seal of approval...if that means anything.

Here's the product description (website and contact info for information only...I am not affiliated with this product or site):

ODORZOUT®
This is a fabulous, dry, 100 percent natural deodorizer. It's nontoxic, so you can use it any place you have a smell or a stink. It is especially effective on pet urine odors, and because it's used dry, it's simple to apply. If you have anything in your home that has a smell or a stink, there is no better product made than ODORZOUT®! For more information, call 1-800-88-STINK (78465) or visit their Web page at www.88stink.com. (http://www.88stink.com.)

Urine Off (http://www.urine-off.com/)

Got this from my vet, worked like a charm cleaning up after a leaky cat. Their site seems to have a dealer locator, but maybe your vet can oblige.
