I have been offered Soriano and Hermanson for David Ortiz. I think I am going to take the trade, thoughts on this.

I have Delgado on my team as well. Also, currently I have Felix Lopez playing 2nd Base for me, and have Mark Loretta on the DL. My two closers are Looper and Hoffman.

Here are the stats we use:

R H HR RBI SB K E AVG W L CG SV K ERA WHIP

who do you have at SS? Lopez has been a beast and all... you need a closer I presume? Full team would be nice.

i'd hesitate to trade hitting for pitching in a league that favors hitting so much, especially since the lower value of relievers than in a normal league. see if you can't get a SP instead.

would getting Soriano be that much of an upgrade, especially since I am losing Ortiz

it depends on how quickly loretta comes back and what you expect from him when he does. he also doesn't strike out as much as soriano, since it looks like that's -EV for your league (so don't go get bellhorn /images/graemlins/grin.gif)

what you're really doing is replacing ortiz w/ jason bay or whoever you get in that util spot and upgrading from lopez/loretta to soriano...my guess is you come out slightly behind there.

hermanson i don't trust at all. he's got a K/BB of 18/11, which isn't all that reliable for a closer. then again, Looper's no great catch either.

in the end, it's probably a coinflip.

how deep is this league that you have those starters?

ThaSaltCracka
07-10-2005, 02:29 AM
only 8 teams /images/graemlins/grin.gif, so most teams are pretty deep. I am currently in second place, and wouldn't mind making a move to upgrade, but I don't really know if this move helps me.

One other problem I have is, should I play Guillen at short rather than Rollins? I get steals with Rollins, but thats about it. Bah.

i don't know that it does.

Lopez 49R 89H 14HR 48RBI 53K 6SB .305BA
Soriano 60R 93H 21HR 56RBI 69K 10SB .275BA

soriano's got roughly 50 more AB, so it's not that much of an upgrade, really. i wouldn't be shocked if they're almost identical when converted to a ratio.

no. rollins helps you (or doesn't hurt you) in every category except BA.

when you get loretta back, i'd move lopez to SS

if you want to buy low on a SS, Jack Wilson hit a Grand Slam tonight and looked pretty good from where i was sitting. might be turning a corner... (or it might be a fluke)

Start Lopez over Rollins?????

hmmmm....

On second thought, I may not make that trade. I think Ortiz's worth is just too great.

plus w/ only 8 teams there may be some good closers out there that would be a better bet than hermanson

turnbow? street? batista? your good friend schilling?

where are you gonna play burnitz and rogers?

glaus plays in Ortiz's spot, which is a downgrade
soriano in lopez's spot, which is at best a small upgrade
prior's currently on your bench anyway and you'd play peavy over rogers i'd think.
hermanson's only a bit better than looper, if at all.

i don't see how this makes you better. deeper, perhaps, but not better

i take the original trade, and reject the new one.

also, in an 8-team league, you should be able to dump finley, move loretta to the DL and find a much more useful bench player (like another SP).

as for playing guillen over rollins, you've gotta be kidding me. what guillen gives to your batting average, he will take away with interest in the other categories.

MrFeelNothin

I reject both trades, with the original trade being closer. Its not that bad of a deal, but I think you could get a lot more for Ortiz if you shopped him around.

FWIW, in a 10 team league with those categories and a couple more I gave Chavez and BJ Ryan for Ortiz early in the year. I have been very happy with my end of the deal, Ortiz is a beast.

MrFeelNothin

I start Rollins without a doubt.

Post the other guys roster, maybe we can create a counteroffer for you...

Any worry that Lopez might not be able to keep up this pace for the rest of the year? He has never played more than 100 games and he is far outproducing what he's ever done before. You know Soriano can keep up with his pace, he's done it before.
