I'm arriving in Las Vegas on the evening of April 18th and I'd like to play in the $2,000 NL HE event of the WSOP on the 19th if I can get in through a satellite.

Will I find one? And where?

Paul.

Go to Binions. They will be running satellites probably around the clock starting a few days before the first event. Of course, this assumes the WSOP isn't cancelled by Binions being out of business or some such.

If Binion's does fold, do any of the other casinos have the wherewithal to pick up the WSOP (with reasonable notice, say a month)?

From a business perspective, the presense of 600 plus players with $10K each along with the resulting side action would suggest that somebody would have a contingency play to step in and fill the void.

They couldn't pick it up and call it the WSOP, not unless they buy or lease the trademarks from Binions.

However, they certainly could offer an "alternative" event with little notice, as long as they have a big enough room available, and could get access to contact information for the dealers that had been hired to deal at Binions. It would be difficult to do, and the bigger question is would anybody consider the benefit to be gained worth the effort, especially with all the uncertainty that would be attached?

My hope, which is probably very unlikely, is that we will soon hear an announcement that Becky has sold the rights to the WSOP to the Bellagio. There was a rumor last year that they offered her $2M for the rights, and she said no. It was only a rumor, so I sure am not saying it happened.

I would hope that Bellagio would pick it up if there are no name copyrights, but there may be a year with no WSOP if that does happen. I had heard previously that Bellagio started their tournaments to eventually 'steal' the WSOP away from Binions. Has anyone heard anything similar to this? Or was it just talk?
