I'm going to my first B&M cardroom (I'm only 19 and most casinos won't let me in) this weekend in LA and need some advice for the Mid-high limit games (10/20 - 20/40)

Would it be a bad idea to do someting like the following?

Sit down, raise the first hand I'm in (regardless of what it is), and bet it all the way through? I'm guessing it's probably not that useful, but I will be new to them and want them to think I'm a maniac. Is over-advertising like this considered -EV? Do you think I can make back the extra few bets later in the night?

Does anyone else do this?

In LA no one believes anyone. You don't need to waste x bets to get action.

If you then go back to tight and straightforward play your first hand will have been such an obvious advertising ploy it will be counterproductive. This is a lame trick and won't work. I wouldn't bother.
In my experience being the only 19 yr old in the 20/40 is more than enough to make everyone call you down. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Edit: I also look much closer to 12 than 19, so that really helps.

"Would it be a bad idea to do someting like the following?"

in la yes that's a bad idea. youre far better off having players scared of you so they check when they should bet and call when they should raise.

Just wondering. Thanks for the advice guys. if there's any other Mid-High limit advice for LA pplease post it so I know.

If I'm winning at 5/10 and 5/10 short online do you think I can win 10/20 LA or 20/40 in LA? Should I just stick to 5/10 I've played a little online 15/30 but stopped because I just don't have the bankroll to do it. I've withdraw $1K from my Neteller account and don't mind blwoing it if the cards get cold, regardless of the limit. Plus, since I'm staying for the whole weekend, I think 1K for 5-10 hours of 20/40 is plenty.

Please stop me from doing anything stupid.

Also, I'm moderately well built so I look older, prolly 21 or 22. I hope this isn't counterproductive to acting like I'm a fish.

play 15-30 at commerce or hp or hustler and play tight and careful (but dont muck in big pots!) and im sure youll have a fine time. enjoy the free food.

You'll fit right in with every other young poker guy hanging around at the commerce from my experience there. The 20 game, of which there are many tables, have been super loose when I've gone, so don't sit down thinking that this 1k should last you a whole day and or/play scared cause that's how you go bust ya know. If you're a winner at the 5 or 15 game online then you'll be able to hang in the 20 game there no prob. And to reiterate what mike l. said, don't lay down hands in big pots cause I know being the youngster of the 30/60 game when I started out people can and will take shots at ya. Good luck buddy.

Isn't commerce 21+ ? What's the juiciest 18+ game?

If you are only 19, you will be the youngest player at the table. This, in and of itself, will give you no credibility so I doubt if leaking a bunch of chips will get you any more "action" than you deserve. Most observant players will just ignore these goofball tactics.

Commerce is 21+.

They card regularly.

They card regulars regularly.

Like myself.

I get carded at the door AND at the tables.

But I look like I'm 16.

Check out the Indian Reservations (Morongo, Chumash, and Pechanga) if you'd like to play in an 18+ casino.

Erm...I've only been to Morongo, so I don't actually know the age minimum at Chumash/Pechanga nor do I know if they even have poker.

But Morongo definitely has poker and is 18+.

Chumash doesn't card regularly, but I can't say it's close to LA. Hell I live in Ventura County, and it's a long drive for me. The biggest game I've ever seen go was an 8/16 that played like Party's .5/1.

Morongo is nice, but also nowhere near LA. Commerce, the Bike, Hustler, HP...that's pretty much it. You can come out to Ventura and play at The Player's Club on Ventura Avenue. They've got a handfull of tables, and the same 20 guys in there every day looking for a tourist to milk. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Pechanga is your best bet, but it,s about a 1 hr+ drive south on i,state 15. The poker is good, thet won't care about your age, and the accomadations are good, too.
