I've decided some new music for the Ipod is way overdue...I don't keep up with popular music at all (usually 90% of it sucks especially with all the hip-hop crap out right now), and I haven't even kept up with some of my favorite bands for the last 3 or 4 years or so.

A list of some old favorites...Pearl Jam (90's), Alice in Chains, Soundgarden/Chris Cornell, Nirvana, Metallica (pre-"Load"), Godsmack, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, and Tool.

Any recommendations for some new bands I may not have heard yet, or new albums from some of these bands (those that are still around)? Oh, and please don't suggest the Killers or Green Day...they both suck.

Audioslave if you don't know about them.

The Black Keys are kick ass blues rock.

I am sure you know this but you listed Soundgarden and Rage and Audioslave is the combination of the two. Cornell with the remaining member of Rage.

Nice list.

Damien Rice is great, and it is true Jason Mraz live is like a different singer.

Yeah, thanks...I knew Cornell went with Rage but couldn't remember the new name of the band. Like I said, I'm pretty far out of the loop.

If into earlier thrashy type metal stuff I would give Trivium and bullet for my valentine a go.

Apart form that your list is more rock type stuff so hard to recommend, maybe Lost Prophets and the latest Funeral for a friend album is much better than anything I coould have expected but dosnt sound like any of the bands you mentioned.

If you expand on heavier stuff you like can maye reocmmend some more stuff, most peolpe here seem into the more indie type stuff which features in most the recommendations given around here.
