For reference I play .5/1 online but only have about 30K hands total. I have a 3.5bb/100 winrate. So I know how to play, but I am still kinda green. This was my first time playing live outside a home game.

I went to Cripple Creek July 7th and spent most of the day. My mom, aunt and uncle came to play the penny slots. Before lunch I won 6 nickels on jacks or better nickel video poker. Maggie's is a good resteraunt and half off if you have a casino card with a few points on it. I checked out cardrooms at Cold Creek and Midnight Rose. Cold Creek had the nicer room. Spacious, but not complety isolated from the casino (ding ding bleep ding). When I dropped in at 1:00PM they had one table going shorthanded. I think the game was 2-5 spread limit. Midnight rose had 2 full tables plus one running 7 players when I sat down at 2:00.

The sweeper was a little brusqe to anyone who wasn't 40+ and male. (I am 34 and look 24). He was a little nicer once I pulled out a $100 bill.

The midnight rose room is pretty compact. Just a halway really. It's isolated from the casino so all you hear is the clicking of the chips. The smokers mostly smoked away from the table and the ventilation was good. I am a big baby when it comes to smoke, so I was annoyed, but I also get annoyed when people smoke outside and it blows towards me.

The dealers were good and quite nice. They kept the action moving at a good clip. At least half the players were known to the dealers. Only half of the "regulars" seemed to play any good. I watched a couple of people go through two racks each. One of the regulars was in his sunglasses and came in for 2 racks which he built into 2 big stacks. I laughed in my head at his work on his image. He played tight if somewhat passive and came away a winner. All the other players were pretty passive. I think I only had one person raise back at me. I was on mid-pair so I let them go. It was the old guy who was winning a lot. He probably outplayed me, but over 4 hours we only tangled in that one pot. He walked away with 2 racks more than he had when I sat down.

I raked in a couple of big pots early ($30 on trips then $50 on a boat), but then had to change to a tighter table when they condensed us to two tables. I bled my winnings down for a while playing pretty tight.
There were a few other tourists (the average age in that town on a weekday must be 60) and a couple of them played really poorly.

I ended up to the plus $65 when they started a $35 buy in NL tournament at 7:00. I would have loved to stay and play the tourney losers in ring games, but I am staying in Pueblo and I dint want to be driving home super late. (Some construction on HWY 9 delayed me at least 30 minutes each way).

If I hadn't gone with my mom, aunt and uncle I mighta looked for a place to stay or even taken my dads camper.

Seems like you could get a game here pretty easy any weeknight after 5:00 and they have a NL tourney at 7:00 or so every weeknight. Between 2:00 and 5:00 people were on a waiting list off and on.
