So, all of these bands can have "The" before their name, but which bands is "The" actually part of their name? And, if there's ambiguity, what do you name them in your collection?

This list does include every band with "The" so if your favorite isn't there - too bad. However, feel free to add any other bands that can go either way or you're not sure of.

"The" is part of all the names of the bands you listed.

Then there are bands like Doves and Pixies where there is no "The" and elitist snobs will get upset with you if you add one, even though it sounds right.

I remove "the" from all my tags that way it sorts correctly in my folders.

It was at least 1995 before I realized it was just Beastie Boys and not "the" Beastie Boys. People still make that mistake, though.
