button progression

If the current BB, say seat 3, gets eliminated, does the button move (from seat 1) to seat 2 with seat 4 being the BB (and no SB) for the next hand?

Does that follow up with the button on seat 4 with 5/6 as SB/BB (thus skipping the SB on 5), or does it follow with a dead button in seat 3 with 4/5 as SB/BB?

I know Partypoker does the former, but I just now noticed the wsop does the latter (recent PLO where Ferguson gets eliminated). I don't remember which Stars does.

Does anyone know what the standard is usually, or can explain this further?

Party Poker is wrong. They just started doing it this way recently, and I don't know why, because it's retarded, and it pisses me off because somehow it prevents me from posting to get into a game when the BB leaves and I was set to post next.

I believe there was a thread in Mid-/High-stakes a few months ago about someone using a similar trick to this to keep good players from getting into a table that he was playing at when they 'waited for BB to post'. I'll try to find it. It was cool.

Edit: Can't find it. Maybe some search guru can do a better job. Sorry. But I think the guy sat out when it was his turn to post or something so that the BB ended up skipping the good player waiting to post. Don't remember the details.

its the diffrence between a foward moving button and a dead button rule.
Most card rooms use a dead button rule. Meaning if seat 1 is the button and seat 3 is eliminated , the next button is seat 2 with a "dead small" after which the button moves to seat 3 and becomes a "dead button" thus seat 4 doesnt miss a blind.
Stars uses a foward moving button in tournaments , and a dead button in ring games.

The fwd moving button keeps moving no matter what the action, if the sb or bb gets eliminated the button moves onto the next person no matter if they will miss a blind or not.

No one misses a blind with the fwd moving button rule. The whole point of the rule is to make sure there are multiple blinds so the casino makes more money.

Seat 3 pays the small blind on the button. Large buy-on NL and PL games use a different forward moving button rule that looks a lot like what some online rooms do. Just move the button to the next active player and let the two players to the lef tof it post. The reason they do that is in NL/PL having the button twice in a row would be unfair and they arne't concerned with the blinds (You don't have to post when you come back to the tabel either, just sit down and get dealt in). This NL/PL button rule predates forward moving button as played in CA and other places.

If you're playing "moving button," then seat 3 does indeed get the button. He doesn't miss the small blind; he pays it on the button, and seats 4 and 5 both post big blinds. On the next hand, seat 4 would be the button (and small blind), and seats 5 and 6 would post the blinds normally. No one misses a blind; they just sometimes post one in a strange position. (Party Poker, on the other hand, does allow people to miss blinds occasionally, IIRC. This is wrong.)

The moving button rule means that no one gets the advantage of acting last two hands in a row; but, someone sometimes gets the advantage of posting a blind in position. OTOH, the dead button rule means that no one ever gets to post a blind in position, but sometimes the same person will act last twice in a row.
