I feel like a kid on christmas eve right now, I leave my house @ 8am and will be in Vegas for dinner time on Weds and am psyched, I figure I will have enough time to sleep on the flight and later weds night so I am not terribly worried. Anyhoo, I am bored and it is 5am here. Good luck to all those who are making a similar journey as I am today and get to Vegas safe and sound. Adios.

I couldn't sleep my first time either, even though I stayed up all night at work - was up 36 hrs. straight - FeliciaLee thought I looked 50 years old...(and gay - she thinks I'm gay) -

by your 4th trip, you'll treat it like a trip to the dentist - good for you in the long run but the time in the seat is a goddamn chore - I still hate airplanes after the 4th trip...

I love flying, I am just anxious to get out there and start playing. Got a few tournies scheduled for my 2 off days in between winning the ME.

the wonderful thing this year is the rio. it is beautiful, spacious, well staffed on cocktails, food, massage, etc.

i guess i am saying that i have the honor of NOT having to deal with a madhouse at a small, run down casino. the rio needs a few more urinals, but they could accomodate double this, in terms of space available adjacent to area.

it is a spectacle that has the bonus of being stress free because of the convention center.

Have a good trip dude.

I'm up now after crashing out kind of early last night.

This happened because I was playing at the Bellagio until 7:30am or so the day before with the two stupidest players in the history of poker (they were so drunk that they actually couldn't even read their own cards....and they kept asking how much the bet was...even though it was always the same....every hand took 5 minutes because every time they bet it took them forever to figure out how to put $8 in front of them).

Anyway - I switch hotels in a few hours and then go to the little PokerStars gathering later.

Played the $200 + 1-rebuy at the Palms last night.
Exchanged 25% share with a 2+2'er who I think is a better player than me (he offered...and I gladly accepted the +EV).
I finished around 60th out of 123 in an uninspired performance.

He was 2nd in chips with 9 players left and they cut a deal. He won $4k.... so $1k of that is mine.

I had come back to my room after I busted out and just told him to call me and let me know how he did.

Not too shabby that I can LITERALLY make money in Vegas while I sleep!!

Tourneys and satellites aplenty at the WSOP (along with the main-event of course).
You could probably play in a couple of those after you arrive to allow you to get comfortable with the scene there.

Sounds like you already have some arrangements...but I would seriously consider just going to the Rio to play in whatever tourneys they have going on.

I mostly agree with Granny regarding the facilities. Seeing 200 tables in a single room is an impressive site.

The drink service and other stuff did have some problems over the weekend (and lots of people were whining) and the dealers are mostly break-in and some are not so great (they also don't have the automatic shufflers in the tables) and the WSOP logo was stitched into the table and was not very well done so EVERY table has these little strings and stuff sticking out.

But it's mostly pretty freaking cool.

The A/C is cranked up in the tourney room sometimes...but for the main-event there will be SO many people in there that I don't think it will be too cold.
But most people have been complaining about how cold it is during much the week.

Not sure how it will be during the crowded conditions of the main-event....but for the previous days' events it hasn't been too crowded and everywhere you look you are seeing someone recognizeable from TV a couple tables over or walking past you (Greenstein, Lederer, Negreneau, Doyle on his motor-scooter thing, James Woods, huck Seed, Hellmuth, Liebert, etc etc etc)

It's a pretty nifty scene.

Have a good trip.

The mental image of "a" Granny using a urinal just made me throw up in my mouth a little.

In a way, I'm glad to hear that's it is not just me; I couldn't sleep a wink either. Now I'm cranky and doing my last minute packing like a refugee thing that I always do the last minute before a trip. I'm really glad that I'm not playing tomorrow.

Good Luck, see you soon.

I'm getting an insane adrenalin rush and I'm 3000 miles away and not playing.

If I were you guys, I don't think I'd have been able to sleep for a week and a half.

where are you guys posting from in vegas? i was just there last weekend and took note of the fact that they really didn't have internet cafes in an otherwise diverse lineup of stores in the paris/etc. do they have wireless in the rooms?

i was wondering if they don't want people looking up strategies/odds while they're there.

(good luck!)

From my laptop I bought yesterday, from my hotel room at the RIO, costs $12 or so a day, not bad.
You can also use web-tv, however very poor quality when you only can see 15% of page.

$12/day for Net access in your hotel room? That's insane.

Even the cheapo hotels in Backwoods, USA offer free wireless.
