I truly enjoy a good plot twist in a movie. I just finished watching The Sting, and was inspired to get some suggestions for other movies with surprising endings.

What's your favorite plot twist?

Do you mean movies that have a lot of twists at the end (like Employee of the Month, Wild Things or Matchstick Men) or which just have one big surprise (like Fight Club or 6th Sense)?

Yes. Matchstick Men as well. Unbreakable was pretty good, but I feel like the movie itself was way too slow. All the ones I listed are pretty good, and I feel like if you like any one of them you will probably enjoy the rest. Plus Wild Things has the hot lesbian action thing going for it.

To people who have seen that type of movie before, sure. Most people I watched it with didn't see it coming (or not all of it, at any rate). Plus it's a fairly well made movie anyway.

My favorite...Planet of the Apes. I can watch that last scene a hundred times.

Sixth Sense was super well done, and an obvious choice.

One you should rent is 9 Queens, an Argentinian flick...the best con movie I've ever seen. They remade it into an American version, but I never had the desire to see it, the original was too good.

I think for twists and unusual endings :

ARLINGTON ROAD is one of the best twists....

Both have pretty cool plot twists in them.

The ending to The Others was good but the rest of the movie was just plain boring. It took forever to develop the story.

And if I see hollywood do one more Movie where two people are really the same person like (Secret Window, Fight Club, Hide & Seek, I am sure I am missing some) I am going to puke.

Hence "The Three" joke....

I liked the Others. I loved the slow, atmospheric build up and tension as you slowly come to realise the horrific truth of what had happened to the family. And the pictures of the dead people were freaky.

signs was bad because he tried to hard to push the idea of faith and everything happening for a reason.
the village had was a very good concept, just poorly executed in some areas.

if i could tell shamalan to do one thing, it would be fire his costume desginer. signs was clearly just a guy in an alien suit. and in the village, any shot showing the entire body of the monster was laughable. yet shots that showed small portions were really good.

How about Last Action Hero?

It's a shame they didn't make it pay off nearly as well as it could have, but the villain's plan to import movie villains into the real world -- "Because here, the bad guys can win" -- was pretty damn nifty if you ask me. Completely underrated movie.

Another GREAT movie with a surprising ending, althought not as much a twist is "Don't Look Now" -it's a 70s thriller with Donald Sutherland. Fantastic.

Saying "The Others" sucks and then coming back and recommending the Boondock Saints kind of kills your credibility. "The Others" was written before sixth sense came out, and if the others had come out earlier, you would probably saying "I liked sixth sense better the first time, when it was called the others."

[/ QUOTE ]

the 6th sense came out in 1999. the others came out in 2001.

i have no idea, however, when Amenabar actually wrote the others, but if i read you correctly, you're referring to his frame of reference.

With none of Sixth Sense, Usual Suspects, Matchstick Men, nor Unbreakable did I "see it [the twist ending] coming".

I don't agree that I am too stupid to live, but I will acquiesce that I may be the worst movie-twist predictor on the planet. In my defense, I will say that when I watch movies, I'm not trying to think, and don't expect a "twist" unless I had heard before hand there was one. In none of those movies did I have such knowledge beforehand.

The Sting is such a great movie. Awesome plot twist.. just awesome. Another crazy twist was The Life of David Gale. I'd heard so many people trashing the movie, but I ended up liking it. Weird ending. Forrest Gump, too.

[/ QUOTE ]

I really liked The Life Of David Gale. Very good ending.

i agree - so much so i don't even remember it!

Yes, this one was good! I think this is the first movie where I thought to myself - that Ed Norton guy, he's pretty good.

Being that Primal Fear was his first movie I am not surprised. Ed Norton is solid, one of the better actors of today.

"The Game" also had an interesting plot twist

Seconded. Great movie. Many twists... You keep on changing your mind on what's going on right through to the end.

Suicide Kings was a little predictable though. It was clear pretty early on that the kidnapping was fake.

Very good choice. I still don't know how nobody mentioned Silence of the Lambs. When Lector pulls off the cop's face in the ambulance.. defenitely didn't see that [censored] coming.
