Hey all,

I learned in one of my psychology classes that people who set goals in stone (ie. in writing) are +XX% more likely to actually achieve them than a person who just says they're going to do the same goal. I forget the exact percentage, but it was a fair amount. Looking across a few of the other forums, and our own, I see a spattering of posts about people setting themselves goals and some other goal setting threads such as the Open Challenges and whatnot.

Since I was going to make a post about my own goals to put them in writing, I thought that maybe it would be a cool idea to invite everyone else in the micros to add their own goals below mine. These goals can be short term or long term, guaranteed to be made or maybe something of a stretch to reach, poker related and even some non-poker related if you care to share such with the rest of us. Every few weeks, make a check back in post giving us the status of your goals. Perhaps it will help you improve and build a little community.

So I'll go ahead and start.

Short Term Goals
- Log 20K hands @ $2/4 by the end of July
- Pickup $500 in bonuses in July
- Make at least 3 posts a day on the Micro forums

Long Term Goals
- Have the BR (and confidence in my game) to take a shot at playing $5/10 live during my trip to Vegas in September
- Be playing $5/10 6max by the end of the year
- Buy the new car I've been eyeing by the end of the year

Feel free to reply with your own.

Short term goals:
- 30k hands by Sept. 7th. I'm 7500 hands into it now, at triple my expected winrate (er, sorry, BB/100).
- Bankroll is sufficient at this moment to take a shot at 1/2, which was the whole point of the short term goal. So I'm 2 month ahead of schedule. But I'm going to stick out the goal, be well funded for 1/2, and take some out to get me something for myself (probably an LCD monitor, or a DVR).
- Finish ITM in 5 MTTs (by Christmas).

Long term goal:
- 3/6 ring within a year
- Buy my wife a real wedding ring

Short term goals:
-Move back up to 1/2 for 40k hands (20k at full ring, 20k at 6max)
-Be rolled and ready for 2/4 by August 7th
-Figure out why WillHill isn't paying me my bonus this month
-Play good poker.
-Open a savings account for my monthly bonuses when I get back from vacation

Long Term
-Be rolled and ready for 5/10 by October 1st.
-PLAY GOOD POKER!

This is a little weird, but I feel compelled to spell out my goals more clearly. But, this is for my benefit... so screw the rest of you! /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Short term goals:
Maintain 6bb/100 4 tabling .5/1 for 5+hours/day for the rest of the week
Go on vacation next week with the family
Return and play .5/1 until Wednesday to get back in the swing of things
Move up to 1/2 one table at a time, maintaining a 2+bb/100 winrate
Play at least 20k hands of 1/2 full ring
Rinse and repeat at 6max
Be comfortably 4tabling 2/4 successfully when school starts on Aug. 29th.

If I can win at 4/8 at the WSOP side tables and the Wynn week before last, you can definitely do it.

Now, my goals:

Short-term:

1. Get out of this downswing I've had since going to Party 1/2 and clear the 30% bonus by 7/29
2. Quit telling myself that I'm really not upset about the 5th runner-runner in a row to crack my Aces over Queens, admit to TILT and go click on the tube or something
3. Keep the discipline to fold QJo UTG
4. Get Poker Tracker

Long-term:

1. Make Shauna Hiatt my next ex-wife (after my current one - this may take a while) Hey, it's poker related, isn't it?
2. Be playing at 2/4 by Christmas
3. Get past the 3rd and 4th place finishes in the local NL tournaments and take first place. I want that buy-in to next year's WSOP main event. OK, I suck but these characters suck too.

Good idea. I've also heard similar things about written goals. So here I go...

I've recently cashed out most of my roll to clear out some long standing debts. My initial deposit was made 4 months ago on credit (bad boy, I know!) and it was time to pay that back plus all the other debt I've accumulated over the last few years. So now I have to rebuild my roll.

Short Term Goals
- Play another 11k hands or so at .5/1. I have enough of a roll left to play at 1/2, but this is a good chance to refine my game for cheap.
- Play 10k hands at 1/2 as I move my way back up
- Build my roll up to a 400BB 2/4 level and play at 2/4 once again
- Play at least 30 $10 SnGs per month and some MTTs as well

Long Term Goals
- Play 5/10 limit and 200 NL by October
- Win a nice juicy MTT prize
- Make enough money to buy myself a laptop (for mobile pokering purposes)
- Save enough to go on a nice long world trip at the end of the year
- Do all of this without failing any subjects in my last semester of college (ouch /images/graemlins/tongue.gif)

Hi all

My Pokergoal for 2005 is

Learn to "crush" Small Stakes HoldŽem

And this is how i am going to do it

Read and Reread
Small Stakes HoldŽem
HoldŽem for Advanced Players
Theory of Poker
Weighing the odds at HoldŽem
Inside the Poker Mind
The Magic of thinking big (goalhunting)
2+2 Post and articles
Books on memory- and studytechnics
The Gambler (by Dostojevskij)

Learn to use Poker Tracker
Begin to make regular handanalysis after sessions
Improve reads (not hard as i have almost none)
Improve shorthanded play (i throw my blinds away now)
Post "No reads", "Stats 50.000+ hands" and some hands

Move up to 3/6 full and 2/4 6 max when i reach 3000$
Move up to 5/10 full and 3/6 6 max when i reach 5000$

Get some bonuses

Play some 2 min chessgames online (speed-training)
Play some Age of Enpire online (multitasking training)

Go from 3 tables to 4,5,6

Keep records off progress and make an update/revision in Oktober

That should do it /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Any suggestion for how to improve are most welcome

Goals are fun, here are my goals for the rest of 2005:

-Complete the move to 5/10.
-Set aside $1,000 for 45 $22 SnGs and play until the money disappears or I start feeling like I've got half a sense.
-Become a consistent winner at micro-limit Stud, Omaha, and just about anything I can find in the .10/.20 range.
-Put in at least 10k hands of 6-max.

Short term goals:
Remove tilt from my game. Adjust to downstreaks and so-called "bad beats"
Finish 10k hands at .25/.50 and 20k hands at .50/1
Start .50/1 6-max or decide if I want to start playing SNGs again
Reread SSHE
Start bonus-whoring at Paradise/Party Poker. Find the best bonus to make my initial deposit.

Long term:
Get to 1/2 by the end of the year
Make a sizable withdrawal by the end of the year to buy myself something nice

-Start paying rent and bills with poker winnings by the end of the year
-Add some more books to my library
-Get a bigger monitor for multitabling more efficiently
