Early in tournament (hence my 10th place finish). I have just added small pairs to my play at the button in unraised pots. I used to routinely fold these small pairs (77 and under) but I've found that even if I don't hit, I can often pick up the pot with a continuation bet. This is important since the typical 10+1 tournament is now a limp, minraise, 1 bet foldfest so I can't just lay out of the first three rounds like I used to.

1. never fold a set in this situation unless MAYBE you have an all-in and 2 all-in's in front of you and one of them you know for SURE has a straight....and then i still call to see if i can hit a boat.

2. I limp any pocket pair (if i haven't opened myself) from any position and I am a professional $100 and $200 tournament player. You make monsters with sets and you can take shots at favorable flops. If you limp 77 and the flop is 993, you can feel quite confident and make a bet at the pot.

Folding that set would be atrocious.

It would be insane to fold a set here. It's almost always insane to fold a set ever.

I was 4 tabling about 3 weeks ago, flopped a set of 6s on one table and a set of 8s on another at the same time, managed to get all my chips into the middle, and then lost both to players who had flopped straights with 2 gapped connectors. Alls you can do is laugh, because the next hundred or so times this happens, you will be the one yelling "PROFIT BITCH"...

I gritted my teeth and raised all in only to be shown 88 as usual, instead of 7,9 from the BB :-)
