I have rarely played NL cash games, mostly playing $33 and $55 NL STT, but decided to try some NL ring while reading a NL cash game book. No real read on villain. Comments on all streets appreciated.

don't like it.

I call you with any pocket pair I raised with preflop.

once your flop raise is called, I think you have to slow down.

Well, I felt with the pause and the fact that he didn't raise/push back on the flop that he didn't have a pocket pair. I thought a typical Party $25NL player would insta-push with a pocket pair that he would raise with PF against 2 limpers. Since I'm posting this hand, though, I'm obviously not sure about that...

I'd like it better with a stronger read. He could have been pausing to figure how to get the rest of your stack?

I've occasionally made big calls with little pairs, but I don't think its been a good strategy. Too often they make crying calls with weak pairs that just happen to beat my hand.

It basically comes to guessing, do they have a pair? and if so, is it better then 5s? will they lay down a pair higher then mine?

The thing that looks questionable is... since you didn't reraise preflop, he can probably guess what you don't have. I'd say he definitely calls with JJ-AA and 44, possibly with 1010 or 99... lays down 8s and below. (Unless he thinks you're making a move... then who knows what he calls with.)

Its certainly going to make most people holding overcards fold.

I like the hand better and better the if you have a lot of hands with the guy.

Well, FWIW, I knew anyone with a better pocket pair was calling. As the pot had gotten sizable, my intention was to get overcards to fold.
