This is a fantastic quartet - if you like the slow movement, you should definitely check out the rest of it (3 other movements).

Just go to amazon or tower and search for "debussy string quartet." Anything played by emerson, tokyo, guarneri, or cleveland string quartets will surely be a good recording.

I'm cheatin here are just 4 that are getting heavy rotation:

"The Hunger"-The Distillers fukin amazing raw vocals, fast and melodic w/clean guitars but still hard. The whole album is amazing and I could subsitute "Drain the Blood" or "Hall of Mirrors" but I'm an old punk /images/graemlins/grin.gif Listen to this sshit LOUD.

"Carry Me Ohio"-Sun Kill Moon/Mark Kozelek..This whole album blows me away..beautifull mopcore...chiming bristling guitars-this guy takes me far far away. Other great songs on this album "Lilly and Parrots" and "Duk Koo Kim"-definetly an acquired taste.

"Leavin' On My Mind"-Hacienda Brothers. David"DB" Berzansky-from San Diego is only like 30-he's the best young steel pedal guitarist around. I was talking to the guy at a show..he's a prodigy he's only been playing for a 3-4 years. He was playing CW dance halls and assorted shindigs with a bunch of old geezers in OC/LA area last year and now he's part of the best the country rocknroll band touring the USA.
Another amazing song on this album is "Railed" a honky tonk surf instrumental-sick [censored] swings so hard. Best alt.country album of 2005. get a chance see these guys. Real roots music that kicks ass. digging these guys has got me listening to all kinds of Bakersfield type/honky tonk stuff from last 30 years-baritone guitar and steel pedal fills rule. "Turn to Grey" is another great song. Young flavor of the month types dont even attempt to listen to this stuffyou'll hate it /images/graemlins/smile.gif-its Americana at its best.

"Flint"-Sufjan Stevens .The whole album "Greetings From Michigan: The Great Lakes State" is amazing resonates w/all kinds of inventive layers of sound-banjo, trombone this guy is genuis. Very mellow but beautiful stuff. Tons of good tuneage- "All Good Naysayers....","Holland" and "Romulus" tunes arent the right word the whole album just flows from start to end. Mood music...

JaBlue
07-12-2005, 04:20 PM
find the song moanin'. Trust me. It doesn't have a good bass line but the lead is played by an awesome bari sax. Mingus wrote pieces with certain players in mind and I'm sure this is no exception (although I don't know who's playing bari). Just an awesome tune and an awesome bandleader.
