View Full Version : Do Any Adults Actually Play Online??????

The constant tirade of mother insults and people typing such impressive banter as "stfu" and "lol" lead me to believe not.

Don't people realize that "lol" was done in 1995?

Ah well, the only time I get nasty in chat is when some uber-donk decides to play table captain and instruct idiots how to play better (typically after said table captain has just lost a large pot to one of these donks).

Then I let loose, insulting the table captain and telling him he's a losing player, why would anyone want to take lessons from him? I still don't toss in "stfu" though.

Maybe the users of "lol" are the older users. Not completely aware that it is....out of style.

I'm already disproving my theory as I am a college student and use "lol" in the chat box simply because everyone at the table knows what it means.

I'm interested actually, what should you put instead of LOL?

While it isn't really "cool" and may be "out of style" I don't know that there is anything that is widely understood that makes for a good replacement.

Can something be out of style and still be the standard on how to communicate laughing in the chat box?

I've begun to come up with my own acronyms to combat the suckout.

FYITFA - F you in the Fing A
FMITFA- Same as above with "me" substituted for "you."

Always a conversation piece.

I like nsof. ( Nice suckout fish )

Also, cysm. ( Could you suck more? )

Or something like that.

Worst people I have found are on Ultimate Bet. I took an earful on the chat everytime I won a sizeable pot.

I usually go with "ROR" which stands for "raugh out roud". But then again, I do a terrible japanese impersonation:

How you get slow rucky?
Hope for big frusha frop!

That hand you were big weina, and to be big weina is hard, that make you BIG HARD WEINA! raugh raugh raugh

Yeah, I don't do politically correct. And I'm 28, so I certainly remember the "lol" days, just tired of hearing it.

As far as my comments to a table captain who's trying to instruct bad players to play well, I do tell them that they suck and are a losing player, and why would anyone want to take lessons from them?

This typically ticks them off and they focus their abuse on me instead of the fish. That is +EV. I don't want the fish learning to play better because some tool couldn't keep his mouth shut.

Sometimes I'll try to be nice and say "no tapping the glass" or "only an idiot would want his opponents to play better". But sometimes I just lash out at them since they respond to my previous comments with "stfu! How could they stay with Q/7/9/4 in Omaha against a capped raise pre-flop???"

I made som comments like "tell your mom to stop calling me, her fingers are smelly" yesterday. I hope it wasn't to you /images/graemlins/smile.gif
The guy was borderline table coach at the moment, so I made some fairly innocent "Do I hear coaching?" remark first, and of course that unleashed his anger with me, which then led to the mother/fingers remark. I'm 29 btw.

Come to think of it, he had a VP$IP of 55 so it could harldy be anyone here.

If there's one thing worse than a table captain telling me where I'm going wrong, it's a grammar Nazi advising me on which abbreviations he approves of and which he doesn't. LOL

Could anyone post a list of acronyms(and their meanings) that I shouldn't say for fear of being considered uncool. Er, is "uncool" correct or is that not the right word on the playground these days either?

BeatOnRiver

lol is a sure nono, also lmao has now been substituted only by the cool people and i wont tell you what the sub word is (sub is a cool abbreviation) if u(cool) want 2(cool) no(un cool) you(un cool) must first show me that u(cool) know(cool) what is cool and what isn't(contractions are so uncool)

I am a grammar nazi, I can't stand when someone uses "your" instead of "you're"

As far as my politically incorrect comments, stfu and get a sense of humor, w00t!

(for those who don't know, I've had my chat banned before on PokerStars because of my imitating "cheeky chappy" from an old comedy show Banzai! So I posted a thread about it and everyone proceeded to tell me I'm racist because I imitated a character that had been on Fox and Comedy Central. I of course couldn't help but defend myself, since I have a close friend from Nicaragua and I own a Men The Master bobblehead, so how could I be racist? /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I think you'll find that 'nazi' should be spelt with a capital 'N'. LOL

Orpheus
07-03-2005, 04:24 PM
"Nazi" is only a proper noun when used in place of a proper noun. Members of the National Socialist Party of Germany were capitalized Nazis. The "Soup Nazi" on Seinfeld should be capitalized as an individual name (i.e. that is how this prominent character was listed in the credits; this may not apply to generic roles like "woman #1" or "drunk")

A grammar nazi or other nazi-by-analogy should not be capitalized. It is not a "proper noun" refering to a specific individual or defined "proper noun" group. One should capitalize Xerox(tm) because it is a trademarked proper noun, but not "xerox" used as a generic word meaning "photocopier" or "to photocopy". The same applies to kleenex or spam or any other trademark/proper noun used as anything but the original proper noun.

I assume from your remark on capitalizing "Nazi" that you actually care about such things. I am not a grammar Nazi, since I do not consider stylistic capitalization to be strictly grammar, but rather "usage" or "spelling".

Actually, I think lol was still in wide use until early '04, when Homer killed it. I am sick and tired of all the morons who type 'lol' in the god damned chat window (if you are an 'lol'er' and do not think you are part of the group I am referring to, you are wrong, moron). Not everything is funny, and hardly anything is funny enough to laugh out loud about. I think I have laughed out loud about five times in my entire life (what can I say, you people aren't funny). So please, the next time your opponent hits his 15 outer on the river, refrain from typing 'lol'. The next time some douchebag types 'zzzzzzzzzz' when a player foolishly decides to think before acting, do not type 'lol'. The next time someone types 'lol', do not encourage them to continue doing so by typing 'lol' yourself. If you are actually laughing out loud because sometime typed 'lol', you have some serious problems. Do not type 'lol' unless you are actually laughing out loud, and even then do not type 'lol'. Instead, type something like 'I believe I just shat my pants'. And if any of you wiseasses respond to this rant by typing 'I believe I just shat my pants', then you are merely an 'lol'er' in disguise (can you see why?) and I will be sorely disappointed for my rant will have been for naught.

Next week: Volume 2 - My 'z' key is stuck again

For me LOL means,

'If I wanted to socialise do you think I'd be sitting at home staring at computer screen. I'm here to take your money and your attempt to talk to me has come at a bad time as I have a tough laydown to make at another table. However, I don't want to make it totally obvious that for me poker is not a game and the l and o are next to each other on my keyboard so I suppose I'll make an effort. Now stfu and let me think.'
