Title: Markin the cards like a hitman
Log: After the players came back from break, Andy Bloch took notice as the dealer spread the cards across the table in customary fashion. He stopped the dealer and started to point out marked cards that he was picking out of the pile. Granted these cards being used this year have been easily marked, but Bloch had a case in his argument. He started to take out a card here and a card there till it seemed like 1/3 of the deck had been marked. He then stated that he had asked for the cards to be checked during breaks. In a justifiable rampage he started to remove marked cards and bend them so that the floor would have to bring a new set up (new deck). The floor came over and examined the cards and agreed that there was a problem. They brought the table a new set up and a harsh warning to those who are peeking at their cards in a careless manor.

I am still paranoid about marked cards, if you saw me at a table playing, I am often UNBENDING CARDS, it's not as big problem when higher quality cards are used, though.

I have KEMs, very tough to bend at all, incredibly flexible and very weird feel, if you've never held a full KEM deck vs. old school cheapo decks, you don't know this.

Damn shuffle machines wreck havoc on the backs of them though.

If 1/3 of the deck looks marked, it's no longer marked, LOL!

Probably had a bunch of people doing same, as my old unbending habit.

No one has ever said anything to me while I'm doing it either, which amazes me.

Is this the first high profile case of possible cheating at the WSOP in the last few years (at least since 2002 or so)?

I don't think it was deliberate cheating...

Sounds more like people just being careless looking at their cards.

Are they talking about actual marks on the cards or just craptastic cards like the ones used in the Turning Stone tourney that Ivey won where the cards looked like they'd been dropped in water then dried out?

I imagine they just have bent corners or something, but I duno!

Those cards had sensors in them. They were using the cameras in the table as a backup system. With FSN's next live tournament coming next week, it'll be interesting to see if they use that system again.

What Andy's referring to is nail marks on the cards. Some players look at their cards by bending them from the side, using excessive finger nail pressure. While I doubt it's being done at the WSOP for cheating purposes, it's diconcerting to see these marks, especially on the aces. The cheaper cards in use mark easily. Players need to be warned about peeking this way, and repeated use should be grounds for a penalty. That would stop it.
