View Full Version : Potentially boring 25BB+ turn decision

I'm waiting for the casino to start a game higher than 4/8 kill while the woman's playing blackjack, and I sit in on a 4/8 game. This is not a kill pot.

The table is humorously bad (good I guess...) and I'm having a fun time and winning. This hand was interesting to me, as after I went home, I realized that I probably wouldn't have played it the way I did given a second chance, or most likely not the first time if I was playing in my regular game.

The turn is my main question, though I'm guessing that some will have issue with the flop. PFR likes anything with a face, and will raise suited paint on the button. Everybody else is a generic donkey. Nobody is folding anything. Hand...

I'm BB with KQo. 5 limpers to button who raises. When he raises, I pick up that he really, really likes his hand, and I figure it is probably one of The Two. SB calls, I call Everybody else.

Flop: A /images/graemlins/heart.gifT /images/graemlins/diamond.gifJ /images/graemlins/club.gif (7BB) Nice...SB checks, I CHECK(?), around to button who bets (he REALLY likes this bet). We all call.

Turn: (A /images/graemlins/heart.gifT /images/graemlins/diamond.gifJ /images/graemlins/club.gif)7 /images/graemlins/club.gif (14BB) SB bets (A7, 80%). I....?

Keep in mind that I was 100% sure that the button REALLY liked his hand. JJ or AA, most likely AA I'm thinking. So, although I had a lengthy discussion with a friend about the hand, does anybody find this to be close?

I think you missed like 30 SBs.

Bet the flop, call SB on the turn, and 3bet after the button raises.

Raise the turn. Punish anyone on a club draw, force someone with a set to pay for the chance to catch a house, and hopefully drive out anyone with a spare K or Q that would split with you if the other came up.

You're not going to get rid of the flush draws or sets obviously and you don't want to. You'd just hate to see it go around for 1 bet. If you're lucky, the button will raise and you can cap it.

I think you can call the turn if you're fairly sure the button will raise so you can 3 bet.

But, What is your reasoning for not leading out the flop?

In this case you're going to trap most of the limpers for 1 bet each. If the button raises, you 3 bet and you're still going to get get several of the limpers to call 2 more bets.

Also if the button likes his hand as much as you say, he's STILL going to raise the turn. So your not losing any turn bets.

Anyone disagree?

My 2 cents

I think your pot size is wrong on the turn.

If the players are as poor as you say I agree that you should bet the flop. If they were better they may also be noticing how much the button likes his hand and not fall for your trap with lame hands...then I don't mind the flop check at all.

Smooth calling on the turn with the intention of 3-betting/capping will be crappy if the button fears a made straight and calls. This depends on your read, but maybe you should just go ahead and raise the turn, hope they call and SB 3-bets so you can cap.

Fun hand.

How's this line. With 14 SB in the pot it's a huge pot already. Check-raise the button to make it incorrect for lone K's and Q's to draw for a chop, or someone who hit two pair to draw for their four outer. With that big a pot a lot of people will probably cold call incorrectly anyway and you're getting in two bets with the nuts, plus the button hopefully will start raising back into you.

The bet/3-bet line for the flop builds the pot is also a good line, but I think this is a situation where I would prefer working to win the pot even with a monster in a multiway and huge pot.

For the love of God man, bet the flop so the button can raise so you can 3-bet so he can cap so you can lead the turn so he can raise so you can get the most money in the pot possible.
