My logic was quite simple...I raised UTG and tried slowplaying my set on a very uncoordinated board...When I pushed all-in on the turn, I figured maybe he had something like trip 9s or trip 10s, because I didn't consider QJo to be a plausible holding for cold-calling a UTG raise.

Did I play badly here, or was I just unlucky?

I think you played well but I wouldn've pushed a little harder with your bets, better to win a little pot than lose a big one. 300 doesn't exactly scare a lot of people out of the pot. I usually push hard, may be too hard but on the flop, if your opponent bets into you, I would push back a little harder, make him pay to see cards. Other than that you got sucked out.

You flopped top set on a rainbow flop with little straight possibility...and got your opponent all-in. I'd say thats about as much as you could ask for.
