Where is my mistake on this hand

Here is a brief discription of what I was playing:
Multi table turnament Texas Hold'em NO-Limit;everyone start with 1100 in chips.

we were on the 3rd hand with 6 players at table all (new players to me)Blinds are $10-$20

I'm in the big blind holding Kh Kd $1080 in chips
1st and 2nd position fold
3rd position calls $1080 in chips
dealer folds
small blind calls $930 in chips
I raise to $70
Player 3 and small blind call

Flop 8c 7c 5s

Small blind bets $50
I raise to $250
Player 3 calls
small blind calls

Turn 8s
board shows 8c 7c 5s 8s
small blind checks
I bet $300
player 3 pushes all-in with $780
small blind calls all-in with $630
I call all-in $780

I lost to full house 8's and 5's
where did I make a mistake or was this just a bad beat and what could I have done differently to win the hand.

Turnament is a free turnament held in bars.

In a tourney with a buying more than $11, when you got to the turn with 8758, you have two players All-in in front of you, an overpair is likely, though not necessarily, beat. Someone will either have an 8 or a straight. If it was just one player, he might be making a move with a straight/flush draw, but with a caller all-in, i'd suspect my hand is no longer good.

With players who didn't put up any money to enter, you're going to see all sorts of crappy hands. Just something you have to live with in a freeroll.

I like playing live games versus online games. I play online and do very well but I like to see my oponents from time to time and freerolls are all I have. I see your from Texas as am I and you are aware that there are no money games in TX that are legal. this is why I play in bars with a freeroll. Barpoker.com also gives away a seat to the WSOP for thier annual Turnament winner.

Biggest mistake is that you raised too little preflop. Make it like 120-160 to go.

I would tend to agree but 6-8 times the big blind is alittle high. and I was encouraging action here wanting to get best value of hand not force all out and steal the blinds.

Stacks are deep and you have two limpers. Typically you want to raise 3xbb + 1 to 2 x number of limpers.

I'm not questioning your motivation for playing in freerolls and i didn't mean to come off as glib. They certainly can be fun. However, a freeroll is not the best place for honing poker skills, unless everyone's taking it seriously. In fact, many plays that'd work there would be awful in "real" tournaments...and vice versa.

Anyway, it is actually legal to have money poker games in Texas. However, there are several restrictions such as you can't have a rake or cover charge, be at a place that sells alcohol, it can't be at a public location, etc...
