My pre-planning for this trip wasn't too good. I missed the PokerStars and online reg deadline. I then didn't get to my bank in time to cash a check today. Do they take anything other than cash? Credit cards, checks, debit cards?

Oh boy.... Well, the good news is, they don't accept cash either. They only take "tourney chips". So.... can you buy chips at the cage with a credit card? I've never tried. They run satelites here which only pay in tourney chips, so you could write a check to a friend who has won tourney chips.... I think you might be S.O.L. though, I think I remember cash or certified check being required.

Well if anybody is there with tourney chips they want to sell let me know. If you're a *regular* poster I can transfer the funds tonight via Neteller, Party, or PokerStars. I just need to make sure I get them in time to register for tomorrow's event.

They do accept cash to register for tournaments. Don't know exactly what you're talking about, but you can use cash in the cage to register for any tournament.

i believe you can just use your credit card or check at the cage and register..no need to transfer funds

Oh, thought it was like the circuit event in N.O. - there you had to buy special "tourney buy-in" chips at the cage, and then walk those over to the registration desk. I did the pre-register thing with the WSOP to avoid that hassle. Guess they do it better here.

You CANNOT use credit cards, debit cards, or cheques to register for WSOP events. At the cage in the poker room they accept only cash, WSOP tournament chips (i.e. "lammers"), and Rio casino chips.

For traveller's cheques, I think you would have to go to the Rio main cage (in the casino) to cash them, then take the cash to the cage in the poker room. Not entirely sure about that however.

I called the Rio today from my bank (bank didn't have enough cash on hand!) and they said a cashiers check to the rio was fine, but would take about a half hour for them to verify it. Im playing the 3k limit event on sunday, so it was only 5k i eas taking out, I was surprised they didn't have that.

Wow, that's pretty ghetto that the bank didn't have 5k in cash. I mean i've carried 1000 dollars in cash before, and i am certainly not a bank

Yes, they will accept cashier's checks and I believe traveler's checks as well at the WSOP cage. No credit cards but you can always do a credit card cash advance at one of the machines. That's what I finally did to get the extra $500 I needed due to my poor planning. When I did it I was given a choice of POS charge or cash advance. I did POS (point of service) and the fee was about half of a cash advance.

Unfortunately, I was as card dead as I EVER have been. During the first few hours I had JJ (set on river for decent pot), AQ, and 44. Besides that no pairs, no big aces, no big suited connectors. I was forced to play with some marginal hands but my table was no receptive to blind stealing. Everytime I raised with something marginal I got called and had to give up the hand after usually making a continuation bet. Wasn't just me. We'd have a raise UTG get called by 3 people. Pretty tough table.

I never got above 3k (starting chips). I was down to around 1400 with the blinds 100/200. Folded to the button who raised. I pushed with KJo. He called (easy with pot odds) with K2 and I doubled up. A few hands later I raised with AQs. It was folded to the SB who re-raised essentially committing all my chips. I was getting about 1.7 to 1 so it was an easy decision. Her JJ held up and I was out.

Very boring tourney and I wish they didn't have those damn credit card machines.

I have paid with normal RIO chips and I'm sure you can get RIO chips at the main cages with your credit card so this should work fine.
