mcafee virus scan crashes my computer

Every time I run McAfee virus scan it stop on file 46,379 which is C:\\windows\$NtServicePackUninstall$\evntrprv.dll

I have to reboot my computer since it freezes at this point.

Get rid of McAfee. It's horribly written and is far too heavy on your memory. Norton is as heavy as McAfee, but at least it's got some good code.

The best option IMHO is NOD32 (http://www.nod32.com/home/home.htm). It's light and VERY WELL WRITTEN. It's highly customizable and really powerful. Eset (the software that makes it) updates the virus database several times a week.
