There are only 4 hands most villains cap with here:

3x
44
99
94

You are likely behind, but the pot is big enough on the river to call and hope for 94

Edit: I thought he called from BB. If he is a decent player, he probably has 44 or 99 or 33 and you are drawing thin.

If you cannot fold either to the cap or on the river (and I don't think you can in this game against a total unknown), then I would just call the turn.

Basically, for me to three-bet overpairs on the turn in this game I want some opponent knowledge and/or a more likely semi-bluffing board.

I just call down his checkraise. If he's bluffing then he folds to your reraise rather than betting the river. If he has you beat then reraising just costs you more. Not many players checkraise the turn as a semibluff so against an unknown the probability is small. If he has a pair of 9's then you miss a bet.

ok

i just feel like i miss value by always just calling here (Which is my default play) because they dont have it so often. i felt he could have a lot of worse hands here often enough to 3-bet. of course i puked when he capped.
