I consider myself probably around the 75th percentile player in the poker world. I have been playing alot of $10+1 single table tournaments lately and almost always I am in the final 5 players with an average amount of cash ($1600 out of $8000 total).

I don't have exact #'s for you, but my results here a PITIFUL! I have tried many styles of play here, but none seem to give me any success. Can anyone give me tips on what could help me here. If I can get this part of my game down I feel I can be a very profitable player (as opposed to a break even player).

I thank you in advance!

Using the latest tournament as an example I give the following hands for consumption:

NOTE: All remaining players seem to raise when warranted (pairs/ A-9+, etc). NO MANIACS

This tourney I have less than average with 5 left:

Seat 4: 2600
Seat 7: 160
Seat 8: 1450
ME : 980
Seat10: 2810

In BB: 200/400.... seat 10 raises (400); seat 4 calls (400), seat 7 & 8 (sb) fold to me holding t6 offsuit.

I FOLD/ Anyone here do anything different?

NOTE: seat 10 had JJ

#4: 1600
#7: 160
#8: 1350
#9:(ME) 780
#10: 4110

Level: 200/400
I am in SB: Everyone folds except #7 who goes all in with 160. I have kt offsuit.

I raise.. BB folds... I lose to A2 when A drops. (Note: had 43% chance heads up)

NOTE: Lost BB (5-2- SB raises) and SB (23s- all fold to me/ I fold)

Seat 4: (3,650 in chips)
Seat 7: (560 in chips)
Seat 9: ME (280 in chips)
Seat 10: (3,510 in chips)

I am dealt A5 utg. (200/400)... do I go all-in here? I folded. Only decision I am really questioning.

Hand 1: Fold, you don't have good enought value

Hand 2: If you decide to play the hand, going all-in is the way to do it since you give BB a chance to fold, witch he did. I wonder what he folded for 380$ more in a 1340$ but anyway.

Hand 3: You can't survive next hand. A-5o is a monster in your spot. no doubt you should have pushed all-in. The fact that you were'nt in the blind adds dead money in the pot witch might be yours if the hand holds up. And besides, people might call you whit hand like KTo. (see you previous hand and result)

Hope that helps

It looks like you need to steal a few more pots to stay around for a good hand. If your chips get low, you probably can't afford to fold your blinds even if you are probably an underdog. Once you get low, getting lucky will only give you a medium stack, while if you get lucky instead with a decent stack, you can get a stack that is favored to take 1st.

If your opps are really playing so tight that there are no steal raises going on, you should be able to pick up plenty of blinds if you lower your raising standards a bit.

Bozeman is absolutly right. Don't wait to get in a position were doubling up would still leaves you short stacked.

When you find yourself shortstacked, you got to make moves. Better make 'em while you still got enought chips to criple a bigger stack who might call you.
